Abstract: An inductor and method and assembly for making the same are provided. The inductor includes a preformed conductive coil comprising a medial portion between first and second terminal leads, and an inductor body comprising a magnetic material surrounding at least the medial portion of the preformed conductive coil. At least a portion of each of the first and second terminal leads of the preformed conductive coil is exposed outside of the inductor body. The method for making the inductor includes providing a one-piece conductive coil having a substantially curve-shaped medial portion and first and second terminal leads and molding a magnetic material around at least the medial portion of the formed conductive coil to form an inductor body, wherein at least a portion of the first and second terminal leads of the formed one-piece conductive coil are exposed outside of the inductor body.
