Publication number: 20120197902Abstract: Methods and systems for optimizing the retrieval of data from multiple sources are described. A slot map including slots for the storage of data elements can be obtained. The data elements associated with the slots can be prioritized by weighting values with costs of retrieving the data elements from respective data sources. Each value can be associated with a different data element and can indicate a respective degree of importance of the associated data element. Further, the systems and methods can direct the retrieval of data elements from the respective data sources in an order in accordance with the priority of the data elements to optimize the quality of data obtainable within a critical time constraint. In addition, the retrieved data elements can be stored in corresponding slots on a storage medium.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2011Publication date: August 2, 2012Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Varun BHAGWAN, Tyrone W.A. Publication number: 20120072429Abstract: A method, information processing system, and computer readable storage medium manage public relations queries using semantic analysis. A public relations query expressed in natural language is received from a user. A set of relevant topics and subjects associated with the query are identified. A set of information sources are identified that comprise data associated with the set of topics and subjects based on the set of topics and subjects. A set of data from the set of information sources is identified that satisfies the query. A set of weights are assigned to the set of data that has been identified. A set of data elements within the set of data that comprises a set of weights above a given threshold are identified. A response to the query is generated using the set of data elements that has been identified.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2010Publication date: March 22, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: YOUSSEF DRISSI, Tyrone W. Publication number: 20120023586Abstract: A system and method for evaluating security exposure of a query includes evaluating a security risk for a query input to a database configured to generate a response to the query. The query has a plurality of attributes and the security risk is evaluated by determining a risk for each of the plurality of attributes and/or determining an exposure consequence based on at least the query. An overall risk is computed based upon attribute risks and consequences. The overall risk is associated and reported with the query.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2010Publication date: January 26, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: MYRON D. FLICKNER, Tyrone W. Grandison

Publication number: 20120011139Abstract: A system and method for responding to a query. An original query is received. A first semantic query and a second semantic query are extracted from the information of the original query. The first semantic query is transformed, based upon semantic analysis, into a numeric model query. The second semantic query is submitted to a semantic analyzer and the numeric model query is submitted to a numeric model analyzer. A response for the second semantic query and a response for the numeric model query are integrated into an answer for the original query.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2010Publication date: January 12, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Youssef DRISSI, Tyrone W. Publication number: 20100223292Abstract: A method resolves ambiguous spotted entity names in a data corpus by determining an activation level value for each of a plurality of nodes corresponding to a single ambiguous entity name. The activation levels for each of the nodes may be modified by inputting outside domain knowledge corresponding to the nodes to increase the activation value of the nodes, spotting entity names corresponding to the nodes to increase the activation value of the nodes, searching the data corpus to spot newly posted entity names to increase the activation value of the nodes, and searching the data corpus to reduce or deactivate the activation value of the nodes by eliminating false positives. The ambiguous entity name is assigned to the node determined to have the highest activation level and is then outputted to a user.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 27, 2009Publication date: September 2, 2010Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Varun Bhagwan, Tyrone W.A.
