    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for distinguishing between an antenna of a user equipment (UE) being blocked by a cover (e.g., a protective rubber or plastic case) or by human tissue (e.g., a finger or palm). The transmission power of uplink (UL) signals may be adjusted accordingly, with relatively higher transmission power for open space or a cover and relatively lower transmission power for human tissue. One example method for wireless communications by a UE generally includes transmitting a first signal from the UE, receiving a plurality of signals at the UE based on the transmitted first signal, determining values for at least two different types of parameters based on the received plurality of signals, determining an environmental scenario for the UE based on the values for the at least two different types of parameters, and transmitting a second signal using a transmission power based on the determined environmental scenario.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for determining one or more attributes of at least one target based on eigenspace analysis of radar signals are presented. In some embodiments, a subset of eigenvectors to use for forming a signal or noise subspace is identified based on principal component analysis. In some embodiments, the subset of eigenvectors is identified based on estimating the total number of targets using a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) or other spectral analysis technique. In some embodiments, a DFT is used to identify areas of interest in which to perform eigenspace analysis. In some embodiments, a DFT is used to estimate one attribute of a target, and eigenspace analysis is performed to estimate a different attribute of the target, with the results being combined to generate a multi-dimensional representation of a field of view.

The antenna array module may be used as a proximity sensor to detect an object's proximity relative to the antenna array module. Aspects include displaying an open space calibration instruction on a display of the wireless communication device, transmitting a proximity test signal from the antenna array module, measuring a value of a first signal received at the antenna array module in response to transmitting the proximity test signal, and storing the value of the first signal as an open space calibration value of the antenna array module. The first signal may be measured at cross-polarized antennas of the antenna array module. The value of the first signal may be representative of perturbations of the proximity test signal at the cross-polarized antennas.

The base station may receive the position information from the UE and convey it to the network server.
