Abstract: Techniques for managing data communications are provided. These techniques includes a method that includes establishing, by a client device, a secure communication session with a server including performing mutual authentication and determining security credentials, and sending a session resumption request message to the server, after a period of time has elapsed since the secure communication session has been established, to resume the secure communication session between the client device and the server without repeating at least a portion of the mutual authentication between the client device and the server, the session resumption request message comprising a session identifier associated with the secure communication session and a message identifier.
