    Abstract: A shoe, in particular an athletic or rehabilitative shoe having a resilient cushioning sole layer within which at least one insert part made of a honeycomb body of elastically compressive material is embedded with its central axes oriented perpendicular to the plane of the sole and honeycomb body. For improved resilient and energy return, the honeycomb body is made so that even the cells on the periphery of the body are closed in a gastight manner. Furthermore, in accordance with certain embodiments, the honeycomb insert is mounted in the shoe in a manner which permits endwise viewing of the cells of the honeycomb insert, while protecting the honeycomb against damaging ground contact during use. The honeycomb body can be embedded as an insert in a midsole or heel wedge layer.

This is achieved in that a honeycomb is incorporated into the midsole, as a part of the midsole itself or as a sole part connected or inserted in the midsole has cell walls that are gas-permeable so as to enable gas to be exchanged between adjacent honeycomb cells.

    Abstract: Shoe sole for sport shoes with an outsole and a midsole of volume-compressible foamed material, as well as air cushions provided in the midsole is designed so that, on the one hand, the damping and, on the other hand, the restoring force, of the shoe sole, and thus the energy gain after release of the pressure from the shoe sole, is clearly improved. This is achieved in that the midsole (1) in the central area (2) under the heel bone (3), is provided with a honeycomb structure with individual honeycomb cells (4) that are integrally formed as part of the midsole (1) so as to open in a downward direction. These honeycomb cells (4) are sealed at their underside by an elastic cover (6).

    Abstract: In a shoe (1), especially a sport shoe or shoe for medical purposes, with an outsole and a midsole attached to an upper between the outsole and the upper as well as with means for adjusting the height and/or hardness/damping characteristics of the sole, at least in the heel area, via damping inserts that are able to be used interchangeably. This is achieved by the fact that outsole (2) is designed to be separable from the midsole, at least in a portion of the sole extending from the arch area (7) rearward to the heel, and then reattached. A single-part or multiple-part damping insert (14), made of flexible material, can be interchangeably inserted into a space (13) formed between the midsole and the outsole when the outsole (2) is separated.

    Abstract: An athletic shoe, particularly a tennis shoe, with wear-resistant parts provided in the area of the outsole to increase the wear resistance of the sole material. The wear resistance of the outsole, particularly in the toe area or in other peripheral areas of the outsole, is significantly increased and yet a sufficient braking effect is maintained by the material of the outsole or of the edge of the outsole. This is achieved by molding parts made of one of such materials as an oxide ceramic, metal carbide, metal nitride or hard metal into the outsole in an upwardly directed edge (3) of toe area (4) of outsole (2) or by subsequently inserting them into the outsole in such a way that the outer surface of the parts ends approximately flush with an outer side of the edge surface of outsole.

This is achieved in that the reinforcement web is positioned to running diagonally from a lateral side of the ball region over sole to the medial side of the heel. Additionally, a diagonal web may be provided running from a medial side of the ball region to the small toe region.

    Abstract: In a gripping element for sports shoes consisting of a cleat having a base portion formed on a sole or fastened to it and that is made of stiffly, elastic material with an insert projecting beyond the base portion that is made of a rigid, highly abrasion resistant material. To reduce the danger of destruction of the insert, particularly by shearing forces, the insert is formed so that the ratio of the maximum diameter (D) of the insert (3) relative to its total height (H) is about 1:7.5 to 1:1.8, the insert (3), in its midsection, has a constriction (E) that divides insert (3) into a tread section (4) and a fastening section (5), the height of the constriction (E) is 25% to 60% of the total height (H) and so that the smallest diameter (e) of constriction (E) is 75% to 45% of maximum diameter (D) of the tread section (4), whereby the insert is able to resiliently deflect so as to move sideways with elastic deformation of the base due to radially imposed loads.

    Abstract: Footwear having a heel counter comprised of a stiff resilient material, especially an athletic shoe for medium and long distance running, is improved so that a better pressure distribution is assured on the outersole, and also on a possibly existing middle sole, in the area of the heel counter. This is achieved by the fact that the surface area which is enclosed by the sidewalls of the heel counter is provided with a pressure distribution membrane which is connected to a thicker reinforced lower arcuate edge of the sidewalls of the counter, and the pressure distribution membrane is suitably contoured to facilitate the improved distribution of heel pressure to the midsole and outer sole. Downward arching of the distribution membrane under heel pressure applied by the foot of a wearer causes an upper edge area of the sidewalls to be drawn inwardly to hold the heel with greater force.
