  • Publication number: 20130233289
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine having a plurality of exhaust-driven superchargers staggered as a function of output of the engine, each connected or disconnected with a common exhaust manifold via an exhaust-driven turbine and an exhaust gas valve. Valve mechanisms are provided for changeover of transition air of an auxiliary compressor, having an output side connected to a common combustion air manifold, and of compressor air of a respective supercharger compressor added in staggered operation. Changeover is effected as a function of supercharger speed and combustion air pressure. Each valve mechanism has an ambient air valve, disposed between supercharger compressor outlet and combustion air manifold, and a supply air valve disposed between the compressor outlet and ambient air valve and leading to auxiliary compressor air inlet. A processor having a stored requirements profile activates/deactivates the exhaust gas valves, valve mechanisms and an auxiliary compressor motor.

  • Patent number: 6966183
Abstract: A supercharged internal combustion engine is provided having a common exhaust manifold and a common combustion air manifold for all engine cylinders. The engine has a plurality of exhaust-driven superchargers that are staggered as a function of the engine output. Each supercharger is engageable or disengageable with the exhaust manifold via its exhaust-driven turbine. Each supercharger, at an input side of its compressor, has a line connection, via a respective valve mechanism, to the output of a charging fan disposed upstream and in series with the compressor. For an oppositely directed changeover between supply air compressed by the charging fan, and ambient air, all of the valve mechanisms are adjusted as a function of the speed of an associated supercharger and a combustion air operating pressure. A processor having a stored requirements profile is provided for the sole release of the valve mechanism of a given supercharger.

  • Patent number: 6279320
Abstract: A turbocharging device for an internal combustion engine has an exhaust gas manifold receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and a first charge air distributor distributing charge air to the internal combustion engine. A first set of exhaust gas turbochargers each has a turbine and a compressor, wherein the turbines of the exhaust gas turbochargers of the first set are connected in parallel to the exhaust gas manifold and the respective compressors are connected serially to the first charge air distributor. A second set of exhaust gas turbochargers with a turbine and a compressor is provided wherein the turbines of the exhaust gas turbochargers of the second set are connected in parallel to the exhaust gas manifold and the respective compressors are connected serially to the first charge air distributor.

  • Patent number: 6158219
Abstract: In a method for turbocharging an internal combustion engine multiple turbochargers are arranged in parallel for supplying turbocharged air to the cylinders of the internal combustion engine via a valve device controlling distribution of the turbocharged air to the cylinders. Each cylinder receives turbocharged air from only one turbo charger at a time and each turbo charger supplies one or more cylinders with turbocharged air. The turbochargers are activated and deactivated according to operational states of the engine. At least one cylinder is switched with the valve device from a supply of turbocharged air of one turbo charger to a supply of turbocharged air of another turbo charger when activating and deactivating the turbochargers.

  • Patent number: 5683512
Abstract: A varnishing machine having an arrangement for adjusting pressure between the varnishing and pressure cylinders and for compensating changes in rotational speed of the varnishing cylinder caused by soaking of the varnishing cylinder shell and/or regrinding of the varnishing cylinder, with the arrangement including two auxiliary side members for supporting the varnishing cylinder or pressure cylinder, two motor spindles for pivoting the two side members, respectively, pressure sensors for sensing the axial pressures applied by the two-motor spindles, a pressure regulator for controlling the applied pressures and thereby the pressure between the varnishing and pressure cylinders, and displacement sensor for sensing an angular position of one of the side members, the position signal generated by the displacement sensor being used as a control variable for controlling the rotational speed of the varnishing cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4774883
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a facility for the operation of a single-color or multi-color printing facility. A first, uniformly designed, idle time occasioning movable machine group of at least one machine unit is used substantially constantly for printing operation. It interacts along a congruent separating line (T), common to all colors, with a second, idle time occasioning machine group of the machine unit, which, for a new run, is exchanged for a further idle time occasioning machine group. The stationary machine groups can be designed differently for the passage of divided or continuous printing material. The separating line runs between plate cylinders of the movable machine group and rubber blanket cylinders of the stationary machine group, which can be components of a rotary sheet-fed or reel-fed printing press. The stationary machine groups are connected by a transport device to a turning device for receiving the movable machine groups.
