Patent number: 6682683Abstract: A method for manufacturing an accordion filter insert in which an accordion filter pack is introduced into a mold and a space remaining thereafter in the mold is filled with a liquefied polymer material so as to form a frame surrounding the accordion filter pack. At least one peripheral elastically deformable sealing lip, consisting of the material of the frame, is produced together with the frame and is consolidated concurrently therewith.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1996Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Udo Michaelis, Dieter Linse, Jörgen Knudsen

Patent number: 6582213Abstract: The bellows (6) of a filter cartridge is inserted into an injection-molding die (3) and provided with the plastic frame (24) by an injection-molding process. The surfaces of the die (3) that lie opposite one another are provided, at least at their edge surfaces (15), with sawtooth-like profiles (1, 2; 30, 31). The sawtooth-like profiles engage with one another and hold the individual folds (22, 23; 35, 36) of the bellows (6) in a defined position relative to one another. The bellows (6) is held by the profiles (1, 2; 30, 31) at its face edges (19) over a narrow region (18), and pressed together, forming a seal, for the injection-molding process.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2000Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventor: Udo Michaelis

Patent number: 6165403Abstract: A method for manufacturing a filter cartridge that has a filter medium, which, on the circumferential side, is surrounded with clearance by a gasket-seal. The method provides for a frame to be arranged in the gap formed by the clearance, and sealingly bonded to the edges of the filter medium and the gasket-seal.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Udo Michaelis, Jorgen Knudsen

Patent number: 6162272Abstract: An accordion filter insert has a frame formed about the filter material. The frame has an elastically deformable sealing lip on the periphery of the frame. The elastically deformable sealing lip is formed of the same material as the frame itself. The sealing lip and frame are formed as a unitary piece.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1999Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Udo Michaelis, Dieter Linse, Jorgen Knudsen

Patent number: 6010548Abstract: A spaced pocket filter assembly has a pocket secured to a holding frame and a spacing member within the pocket made of a single sheet of material. The spacing member has an alternately folded Z or zig zag configuration and is secured to the interior of the pocket along each of the fold lines. The pocket assembly can be manufactured by interposing a roll of a sheet media for the spacing member between rolls of filter media for the pocket. The spacing member media is folded into the Z or zig zag configuration, layered between the pocket media, and secured to the pocket media continuously along the fold lines.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1998Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Freudenberg Nonwovens Limited PartnershipInventors: Robert B. Burkhead, Klaus Schwobel, Udo Michaelis

Patent number: 5958097Abstract: A filter insert. The filter insert includes an accordion fold pack that is made of a filter material and is joined to a filter frame. The material of the filter frame is injected in a flowable state into the folds of the accordion fold pack which are open in the on-coming flow direction of the medium to be filtered. The material is subsequently hardened during automatic claw fixation with the fold walls. The entire peripheral edge of the accordion fold pack sealingly overlaps the outer boundary surfaces of the filter frame, and is designed as a sealing device.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1998Date of Patent: September 28, 1999Assignee: Firma Carl FreudenbergInventors: Ulrich Schlor, Udo Michaelis, Jorgen Knudsen

Patent number: 5695535Abstract: A pocket filter includes a front frame which accommodates at least two filter bags. The top of each bag accommodates a reinforcing frame. The bags are secured dust-tight to one another, to the reinforcing frames, and to the front frame. The front frame is a severed at at least one point along its perimeter. The front frame has a U-shaped channel around it that opens inward, and the reinforcing frames can be inserted into the channel when the front frame is open at the severed point. The reinforcing frames match each other and match the size of the front frame, creating a dust-tight contact between all the adjacent reinforcing frames and the inner surface of the channel when the front frame is closed at the severed point. Facing webs, disposed in the channel opening on each side of the "U", create a dust-tight contact with the reinforcing frame.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1997Date of Patent: December 9, 1997Assignee: Carl FreudenbergInventors: Dieter Hintenlang, Dieter Unrath, Udo Michaelis, Margit Hofmann

Patent number: 5167740Abstract: A filter insert of nonwoven material in the form of a pleated pack is self-supporting and consists of thermally weldable nonwoven (1). Each of the two outside ends (3) of the pleated pack (2) is hemmed by the nonwoven material (1) forming the pleats, which is folded over in the same direction and at the same time is fixed in tight contact to the corresponding folded of the adjacent pleat end. At the same time the nonwoven material projects beyond the near crease of the adjacent pleat end by 0.5 to 1.5 times the pleat spacing. For manufacture, the flat filter material (1) is first pleated and then a defined pleat spacing (7) is produced by drawing it apart to a limited extent. Then the two outside edges (8) of the pleated pack are gripped between comb-like tools (9) entering pincer-wise into the pleating at top and bottom, leaving the filter material projecting beyond the tools on each side by 1.5 to 2.5 times the pleat spacing (7).Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Carl FreudenbergInventors: Udo Michaelis, Ulrich Schlor
