A time of flight of a measuring beam, which represents a beam emitted obliquely onto a track of the working platform by the distance sensor, is determined. The time of flight determined in this manner is compared with a reference time of flight in order to determine a change in the inclination angle of the working platform. A control signal for controlling the working platform is output on the basis of the inclination angle change. As a result, a change in the gradient of a track in front of each wheel is individually determined before the particular wheel travels on the track section with the inclination change.
