  • Patent number: 7440297
Abstract: A device corrects the power factor in forced switching power supplies and includes a converter and a control device to obtain a regulated voltage on an output terminal. The control device comprises an error amplifier having an inverting terminal (Vout) and a non-inverting terminal receiving a reference voltage. The device includes first and second resistances coupled in series with a conduction element positioned between the first resistance and the inverting terminal of the error amplifier and a fault detector suitable for detecting the electrical connection of the conduction element with the output terminal and suitable for detecting an output signal of the second resistance. The fault detector is suitable for supplying a malfunction signal upon detecting an electric disconnection of the conduction element from the output terminal or when the output signal of the second resistance tends to zero.

  • Patent number: 6822401
Abstract: A method manages lamp fault conditions in electronic ballasts for one or more gas discharge lamps. The method for fault management of electronic ballast for at least one gas discharge lamp includes the steps of: preheating the lamp filaments applying a low current for a predetermined time; igniting the lamp by increasing at a predetermined rate the voltage applied up to a predetermined strike value; monitoring the lamp current; repeating the steps of igniting the lamp and monitoring the lamp current for a predetermined numbers of times if the lamp current is over a predetermined threshold; and powering the lamp at normal operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 6798269
Abstract: A bootstrap circuit in DC/DC static converters is provided that includes a power transistor having a first non drivable terminal coupled with a first input voltage and driving means connected with a drivable terminal of the power transistor and adapted for determining the on time and the off time of the power transistor for each prefixed switching time period. The bootstrap circuit includes a capacitor coupled respectively with the second non drivable terminal of the power transistor and with a second input voltage and an input of the driving means so that the voltage between its terminals is substantially equal to the voltage between the second non drivable terminal and the drivable terminal during the off time of the power transistor. The bootstrap circuit includes an overcharge circuit arranged between the second non drivable terminal and ground; the overcharge circuit is able to allow overcharging the capacitor during the off time of the power transistor and for a time period lower than the off time.
