  • Patent number: 7827284
Abstract: A method for performing admission control in order to offer assurances on forwarding quality in networks comprising setting a threshold for each link where the threshold defines a maximum sum of forwarding resources requested by applications for their application data flows, ADFs, on the link. The level of the threshold is chosen by utilising knowledge about multiplexing properties of the ADFs on each link and by utilising knowledge about the forwarding resources of the links.

  • Patent number: 7720966
Abstract: A data network, method and a computer program product, wherein the data network is implemented by a first network level (104) having a first addressing scheme and at least a second network level (108) having a second addressing scheme. Each network level provides connectivity over at least one network domain. A first group of Network Resource Managers, NRMs, (b-d)) is arranged to control the resources of the first network level and a second group of NRMs (e-g) is arranged to control the resources of the second network level. The NRMs of the first group (b-d) and second group (e-g) exchange resource requests by using the first addressing scheme and the NRMs (e-g) of the second group perform an address mapping between the first and second addressing schemes.

  • Publication number: 20090323712
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangements associated with a Bandwidth Manager, BM, adapted to reserve network resources requested from clients for resource objects in a data network. The arrangement comprises means for determining a second amount of resources to be allocated in addition to the required first amount defined by the resource requests from the clients, wherein the second amount of resources to be determined is dependent on the rate at which the first and second amounts of allocated resources can be increased through admitted requests for more resources.

  • Publication number: 20090304018
Abstract: A Bandwidth Manager, BM, entity connectable to a Bandwidth Manager system (300) adapted to serve clients having knowledge about performed resource reservations and including a plurality of Bandwidth Manager, BM, entities hierarchically connected in multiple levels, wherein one or more BMs is/are located at each level. The BM entity includes elements for synchronizing states of BM entities located at a level higher than the level of the BM entity, wherein at least two BM entities at the higher level are workers.

  • Publication number: 20090304020
Abstract: An arrangement associated with a Bandwidth Manager, BM, adapted to reserve and return network resources requested from a first entity in a data network. The arrangement includes a first message rate limiter element (301) adapted to limit the rate of reservations request messages to the BM, a second message rate limiter element (302) adapted to limit the rate of resource return messages to the BM, and at least one message rate estimator unit (303) adapted to adjust the message rate limiters between the reservation request signalling peak rate and sustained rates defined for the communication between the BM and a second entity.

  • Publication number: 20090003194
Abstract: The present invention relates to a back up top tier bandwidth manager (160) adapted to back up a top tier bandwidth manager (120) upon fail-over of the top tier bandwidth manager (120) in an Internet Protocol, IP, network. Said IP network comprises the top tier bandwidth manager (120) comprising a resource map (130) and adapted to pre-allocate resources in bulk from a bottom tier of said IP network (150) via a bottom-tier bandwidth manager (140) also located in said IP network. The back up top tier bandwidth manager comprises further a copy of the resource map (130) of the top tier bandwidth manager (120) which it is backing up and means for synchronising states with the bottom tier bandwidth manager upon fail-over of the top tier bandwidth manager.

  • Publication number: 20070189180
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a node for controlling the forwarding quality in a data network. The data network comprising a measurement manager comprising means for performing measurements in said data network and a Network Resource Manager, NRM, comprising means for obtaining information of the network topology. The method comprises the steps of: detecting potentially overloaded paths or individual out-interfaces by using a detecting-method, selecting one or more nodes where measurements are to be performed based on the detected potentially overloaded paths or individual out-interfaces, and measuring quality metrics in the selected nodes.

  • Publication number: 20070115918
Abstract: A method for controlling the forwarding quality in a data network comprising measuring (S11) end-to-end forwarding quality in measurement nodes (106) located outside the network core and detecting forwarding quality violations in at least one path between these nodes. According to the invention the method comprises the further steps of:—selecting (S13, S15, S17) at least one potentially overloaded interface comprised in the at least one path where quality violations were detected by combining knowledge about different end-to-end measurements performed in the network, with knowledge about the network topology and knowledge about booking levels and forwarding capacity for the interfaces;—defining (S23) a new or adjusting (S21) an already existing provisioning level for each selected interface, such that the usage of each path detected to have forwarding quality violations is limited at one or more interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20070115856
Abstract: Method and a computer program product for controlling the forwarding quality in a data network including a measurement manager elements for performing end-to-end measurements between nodes in the data network and a Network Resource Manager, NRM, including elements for obtaining information of the network topology. The method includes the steps of: transferring the obtained information of the network routing topology from the NRM to the measurement manager or transferring a result of the performed end-to-end measurements from a measurement manager to the NRM, and combining the end-to-end measurements and the obtained information of the network routing topology into a first information set in order to detect correlated and uncorrelated paths.

  • Patent number: 7139281
Abstract: A method of active queue management, for handling prioritized traffic in a packet transmission system, the method including: providing differentiation between traffic originating from rate adaptive applications that respond to packet loss, wherein traffic is assigned to one of at least two drop precedent levels in-profile and out-profile; preventing starvation of low prioritized traffic; preserving a strict hierarchy among precedence levels; providing absolute differentiation of traffic; and reclassifying a packet of the traffic of the packet transmission system, tagged as in-profile, as out-profile, when a drop probability assigned to the packet is greater than a drop probability calculated from an average queue length for in-profile packets.
