  • Patent number: 5338621
Abstract: An apparatus for converting chemical energy of a fuel into electrical energy includes a plurality of high-temperature fuel cells, which extend parallel to each other, with each fuel cell having an oxygen electrode comprising SrO-doped Mn oxides and having a Cr surface layer, and fuel electrodes comprising Ni/ZrO.sub.2 cermet and having Ni surface layers, a separating plate constructed as a hollow body for guiding, distributing and collecting gaseous media, and a highly elastic constructional element in the form of a gas-permeable intermediate layer, which acts as a high-temperature spring between the separating plate and the current collectors.

  • Patent number: 5079105
Abstract: Device for the conversion of chemical energy of hydrocarbons into electric energy by plate-shaped high-temperature fuel cells, arranged like a stack around a central reaction space, on the basis of zirconium oxide as solid electrolyte, wherein gas jet pumps are provided for the transport and mixing of a part of the O.sub.2 excess and ballast gas with the gaseous oxygen carrier, as well as for the transport and mixing of a part of the fuel excess and the reaction products with the gaseous fuel, and a central perforated feed pipe and a perforated body with catalyst coating are provided such that endothermic conversion reactions are performed within the central reaction space.

  • Patent number: 5034288
Abstract: Arrangement of fuel cells based on a high-temperature solid electrolyte (1) of stabilized ZrO.sub.2 for achieving maximum possible power in minimum space by electrical series connection and mechanical stacking of a plurality of flat, plane plate-shaped fuel cells (1; 2; 3) on the filter press principle, in each case the oxygen electrode (2) of the one fuel cell being connected to the fuel electrode (3) of the next-following fuel cell by an electrically conductive element (4), which contains flow channels for the gaseous media. Design of the electrically conductive elements as a bipolar plate (4) provided with elevations (11). Cross-flow principle. Chequerboard-like arrangement of a plurality of fuel cell stacks (33) next to one another: best utilization of space, maximum power density.
