  • Patent number: 8908611
Abstract: A semi-single frequency network (SFN) concept is presented. According to the SFN concept, the same data signal is transmitted from multiple base stations to a mobile terminal simultaneously on the same frequency band. Accordingly, the transmitted signals are combined in the radio channel and the mobile terminal experiences the transmitted signals as one signal propagated through a multipath channel. Additionally, each base station transmits a base station specific pilot signal. The mobile terminal carries out a channel estimation procedure for each received pilot signal and combines the channel estimates to obtain information how to equalize the received data signal. Then, the mobile terminal calculates equalization weights from the combined channel estimates and equalizes the received data signal.

  • Patent number: 7865201
Abstract: A HARQ data reception scheme for a multiradio communication device is disclosed. The communication device operates multiple radio connections and monitors interference level caused to a target radio connection by at least one other radio connection operated in the communication device. A data packet and at least one retransmission data packet are received with the target radio connection. The utilization of the received data packet and the at least one received retransmission data packet in a hybrid automatic repeat request data reception is determined according to the interference level at the time instant associated with the reception of the corresponding data packet. Under high interference, the received data packet may be discarded, and detected and decoded data packets may be weighted for the HARQ combining according to the interference levels associated with the data packets.

  • Patent number: 7843890
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for locating synchronization channels (SCH) in a downlink which are received by a user equipment (UE), such that the downlink synchronization channels are transparent to shared channel users (or UE) which can be used, e.g., in evolving and future systems such as EUTRAN, 4G, 3GPP2, etc. The synchronization channels are arranged so that they are transparent to the UE in a normal active operation state. For that, the resources given to the SCH are chosen to be one or more allocatable resources (resource units) in a sub-frame or in a plurality of sub-frames. In an allocation table, these resources may not be allocated to the UE and in the active state the UE sees that and discards these resources just as it discards any other resource that is not allocated to it.

  • Publication number: 20080165710
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for using DL sub-frames with a unique pilot structure for TDD communications between a network element and a user equipment. In order to have equally good estimation for, e.g., channel, SIR and/or CQI estimation in the edges of a TDD sub-frame, the pilot structure should take into account UL/DL frame boundaries. In other words, a DL TDD sub-frame (e.g., 0.5 ms in duration) or sub-frames, adjacent in time domain to an UL TDD sub-frame can have higher total pilot energy than non-adjacent downlink TDD sub-frames by a pre-selected value or values.

  • Publication number: 20080112517
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments of this invention substantially reduce self-interference between antennas of a multi-antenna electronic device using IRC without basing interference-minimizing effects (e.g., the covariance matrix) on attributes of the received signal. In one, non-limiting exemplary embodiment, a method includes: determining, based on at least one property, a covariance matrix for interference rejection combining (IRC), wherein the covariance matrix is determined prior to reception of a signal for which the IRC is to be used; receiving the signal; and utilizing the determined covariance matrix with the IRC to reduce self-interference of the received signal. In another exemplary embodiment, a method includes: determining at least one temporal property of self-interference for a signal prior to reception of the signal; receiving the signal; and utilizing the determined at least one temporal property to reduce self-interference of the received signal.
