Patent number: 5517724Abstract: A hinge for use in a piece of furniture includes a casing adapted for attachment to a door of the piece of furniture and having a bottom provided with a bump, and a support member for attachment to a wall of the piece of furniture and including at least one bearing insert projecting into the casing for defining at least one joint connection between the support member and the casing. In the area of the joint connection, the bearing insert includes a peripheral cam which cooperates with a closing and locking member in form of a flat spring during opening motion of the hinge. The flat spring is located the area of the casing bottom, approximately parallel thereto, with the central area of the flat spring being supported by the bump of the casing bottom.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1994Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Assignee: Paul Hettich G.m.b.H. & Co.Inventor: Ulrich Beneke

Patent number: 5253390Abstract: A hinge for an article of furniture has a mount which is attachable to a wall of the article. A hinge unit including a hinge arm and, optionally, a support for the arm is releasably connectible to the mount. To this end, the hinge unit is provided with a shaft which is receivable in a complementary recess of the mount. The hinge unit is further provided with a resilient tongue, and the tongue has a groove which cooperates with a projection on the mount to lock the hinge unit to the mount by snap action. A lever projects at an angle from both sides of the hinge unit, and the free end of each lever carries an arm which extends towards the tongue. An inclined protuberance is provided on either side of the tongue and each lever arm abuts a respective protuberance. The arrangement is such that, when the levers are urged towards one another, the lever arms cooperate with the protuberances to disengage the groove in the tongue from the projection on the mount.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1992Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Assignee: Paul Hettich GmbH & Co.Inventors: Jurgen Gross, Gunter Sundermeier, Ulrich Beneke, Dieter Waltemate, Detlev Uthoff

Patent number: 5012551Abstract: A furniture hinge has a hinge arm connectible to the body of a piece of furniture and a lever connectible to a closure for the furniture. The closure is movable between a closed position and an open position. A damping device is disposed between the hinge arm and the lever and includes a housing having a bellows-like first part and a second part secured to the hinge arm. A piston rides in the housing and divides it into first and second chambers. The piston is provided with flow channels which allow hydraulic fluid in the housing to flow between the first and second chambers. The piston is mounted on a rod which extends through, and is coupled to, the first housing part and is articulately connected to the lever. A sealing member likewise mounted on the rod is arranged to seal the flow channels upon movement of the closure to its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1989Date of Patent: May 7, 1991Assignee: Paul Hettich Gmbh & Co.Inventors: Ulrich Beneke, Jurgen Gross, Wilfried Oepping, Manfred Schnelle, Gunter Sundermeier

Patent number: 4847948Abstract: A hinge for connecting two relatively movable components of a piece of furniture has a housing which is mounted on one of the components and a carrier which is mounted on the other component. A link bar pivotally connects the housing to a hinge arm which is secured to a quick-mounting plate via a fastening screw. The fastening screw passes through a slotted hole of the hinge arm so that the latter can be moved longitudinally relative to the quick-mounting plate when the fastening screw is loosened. An adjusting screw is threaded into the hinge arm and allows the inclination of the hinge arm relative to the quick-mounting plate to be adjusted. One end of the quick-mounting plate is provided with a pivotable arresting member for rapidly locking the quick-mounting plate to, and rapidly releasing it from, the carrier. The arresting member has a lip which engages a projection of the carrier in the locked condition. A cover is provided for the hinge arm and is designed to overlie the fastening and adjusting screws.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1988Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Paul Hettich GmbH & Co.Inventors: Jurgen Gross, Ulrich Beneke
