  • Patent number: 8165740
Abstract: A device and a method for bidirectional single-wire data transmission of data information between an electronic control unit and at least one peripheral unit. A predefined constant voltage and/or a predefined constant current is applied to a driver device of the electronic control unit to produce voltage-coded and/or current-coded information. The voltage-coded and/or current-coded information is transmitted from the driver device of the electronic control unit to a driver device 30 of the peripheral unit via a single-wire line. At least the driver logic of the driver device and/or the communication logic of the peripheral unit are triggered and powered through the current flow. Information occurring on the peripheral unit is current-coded and/or voltage coded due to the triggering thereof.

  • Patent number: 7392128
Abstract: A device and a method are described for bidirectional single-wire data transmission of information between a control unit and at least one peripheral unit, having the following steps: generating a first current flow from the control unit to the peripheral unit during first time slots via a single-wire line to transmit voltage-coded or current-coded information from the control unit to the peripheral unit; and/or generating a second current flow from the peripheral unit to the control unit during second time slots via the single-wire line to upload voltage-coded or current-coded information from the peripheral unit to the control unit; the first and second time slots being implemented so they do not mutually overlap; and/or generating, in the first and/or second time slots, additional information to be transmitted and/or uploaded, which is transmitted as digital or analog signals by modulating the current or the voltage of the single-wire line and is analyzed in the control unit or the peripheral unit.

  • Patent number: 5970965
Abstract: An inductive coil ignition system for an engine, having at least one ignition coil which includes a primary winding fed from a voltage source and having two terminals, and a secondary winding also having two terminals. A switching apparatus is arranged parallel to the primary winding and connects the two terminals of the primary winding as a function of a control signal. An activation circuit generates the control signal.

  • Patent number: 5875749
Abstract: An a.c. ignition system for an engine, with an ignition transistor that switches the primary winding of an ignition coil, with a control circuit for controlling the ignition transistor and a parallel circuit including a capacitor and a diode between the emitter and collector of the ignition transistor. The control circuit can receive a measuring signal that is proportional to the collector potential of the ignition transistor, and the control circuit controls the ignition transistor depending on the measuring signal so that the ignition transistor is activated at a low voltage between the collector and emitter of the transistor.

  • Patent number: 5438268
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for ignition systems for detecting an arc voltage at a spark plug has an ignition coil having a primary side on which the arc voltage is transformed and also having a primary winding, an ignition switch located in series with the primary winding of the ignition coil, a pnp transistor working as a voltage converter and having a control stage so that the arc voltage transformed on the primary side activates the control stage. The transistor is connected on an emitter side to a connection between the primary winding and the ignition switch. The pnp transistor is connected on a base side to a battery voltage. A resistor is assigned as an emitter follower to the pnp transistor. A measuring element is formed as a resistor. The transistor with its collector connection feeds to the measuring element a collector current which is proportional to the arc voltage.

  • Patent number: 5107392
Abstract: The invention relates to a final ignition stage of a transistorized ignition system (1) having a Darlington transistor (DT), in the collector-emitter circuit of which the primary coil current (I.sub.SP) of an ignition coil (ZS) flows and which is controlled via a base line (2). According to the invention, there is a regulating transistor (T.sub.1) arranged between the base line (2) to the base of the Darlington transistor (DT) and earth, said regulating transistor being driven in correspondence with the size of the primary coil current (I.sub.SP) and for purposes of current limitation partially conducting away to earth the base current flowing into the Darlington transistor (DT). Thus, a simple, cost-effective circuit for limiting the primary coil current and thus the stored ignition power is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5045796
Abstract: A circuit for recognizing missing or poor firings in Otto (gasoline) engines with multi-circuit ignition systems features a voltage tap on the primary side of each ignition coil (10, 11), leading to a respective controllable transistor (16, 19). A common junction point (21) for the respective transistors provides signals, representative of the control states of the transistors, for evaluation (32). These signals correspond to the respective spark burning voltages. The cylinders fire sequentially, so the voltage patterns of the respective cylinders appear sequentially at the common junction point, and it is possible, even in multi-circuit ignition systems, to monitor the individual ignition circuits in a simple manner, and to interrupt fuel supply to any less-than-optimally firing cylinder, thereby preventing unburnt hydrocarbon overload on the catalytic converter and on the environment. Preferably, the evaluation circuit includes an A/D converter (33) and an INTEL 8051 microprocessor (34).
