  • Patent number: 5485899
Abstract: A floating-frame spot-type disc brake is described comprising a floating frame (1) guided in a manner axially displaceable on a brake carrier (12), and being furnished with two brake cylinders (2, 3) and two brake pistons (4, 5) directly acting on two axially inwardly disposed brake shoes (6, 7). The brake carrier (12) is located entirely on one side of the brake disc and no portion extends across the outer edge of the brake disc (15), so that the maximum diameter of the brake disc is limited only by the relatively thin sections of the floating frame (1) extending across the outer edge of the brake disc. Additional brake shoes (8, 9, 22), on the axially outer side, are fixed to the floating frame (1), in turn transmitting the circumferential force acting on the outer shoes occurring during braking, through a bolt guide (10), into the brake carrier (12).

  • Patent number: 5330035
Abstract: Various forms of a disc brake hold down spring are disclosed, the spring having two legs disposed in a V-shape and being elastically swingable in respect of each other. In a first form, the legs extend axially and are each formed with a wing loop with one side of the wing being lockable in an undercut opening in the housing while the opposite wing side engages the backplate of at least one brake show. In a second form, the legs extend circumferentially have ends engaging the brake shoes, with a central section received in a brake housing guide opening.

  • Patent number: 5297659
Abstract: A support of a floating caliper (7) of a spot-type disc brake on an axially external brake shoe (4) is described. For the support, two carrier elements (5, 6) are disposed spaced apart laterally in the circumferential direction on the external brake shoe (4), the corner elements (5, 6) furnished with projections (8, 9) which engage two axially extending grooves (14, 15) on the inside of circumferential extensions on the floating caliper (7) and which come to be abutted against their internal guide surfaces (16, 17, 18, 19). The caliper is thereby of maximized width and rigidity while being securely supported on the external brake shoe.

  • Patent number: 5193652
Abstract: A disc brake for automotive vehicles in which the brake disc is straddled radially from the inside by a fist-shaped brake housing. The supporting and guide elements of the housing consist of a supporting bearing (34) and a movable bearing (7). The supporting bearing (34) connects the housing (8) with the holder (6). The housing 8 is swivelable about the supporting bearing (34). The housing (8) takes support on the movable bearing (7) which comprises a pin (3) rigidly coupled directly to the wheel suspension (38). By coupling the movable bearing (7) directly to the wheel suspension and supporting the lining in a tangential direction directly on the entering side, maximum utilization of the radial space, an increase of the effective radius, and a reduction of the thermal load of the brake are achieved.

  • Patent number: 5158159
Abstract: A spot-type disc brake in which a brake carrier elastically mounts a brake frame on a pair of guide rods so as to allow limited axial tilting. The brake carrier has a pair of axial arms receiving the brake pads therebetween and each attached to a radial member facing an inner connecting member connecting brake frame arms, and the guide rods extending axially therebetween. The brake frame arms straddle the carrier arms, and a spring element acts to press a contact area on one connecting portion of the carrier arms into engagement with central area on an outer connecting member fixed between the brake frame arms. A space between a pair of radially extending limbs of the brake carrier receives the actuating device mounted on another connecting member extending between the brake frame arms. Guide pins fixed to the brake carrier extend through oblong openings in the brake pads.

  • Patent number: 5111914
Abstract: A spot-type disc brake for automotive vehicles, with a housing and with a brake carrier provided with two arms which are positioned in radial direction relative to the brake disc at a distance from each other and with a brake lining slidably guided at the arms in the direction of brake application and furnished with a carrier plate. The brake lining is connected to the arms in a positive locking fit in the direction of the circumference of the brake disc in such a manner that the frictional force occurring at the brake lining is transmitted to both arms at least in the presence of more elevated brake application forces. The arms with surfaces facing each other form a guide which is open in radially outward direction and serves to accommodate and guide the brake shoe. One arm in the vicinity of the brake disc is formed with a groove extending in the direction of brake application and is open outwardly.

  • Patent number: 5048645
Abstract: A re-usable wear indicator (14) detachably secured to the pad carrier plate (2), especially intended for a disc-type brake shoe (1), which is located at the same point as is a spring (8) precluding rattling from occurring. This measure enables a recess (4) in the brake pad (3), required for fixing the spring, to be used, at the same time, to accommodate the wear indicator (14). The fixation is with the aid of a snap or O-ring (20) secured in an annular groove (19) on an extension (17) of the wear indicator (14), which ring (20) undergrips the constricted first end (21) of a hollow clip (22).

  • Patent number: 4921077
Abstract: An inwardly straddling disc brake in particular for automotive vehicles is disclosed including a brake disc carried at its outer rim, a stationary brake support having two substantially radially extending arms which are interconnected by a connecting portion extending substantially in a circumferential direction and a brake housing which is axially slidably supported at the brake support member and actuable by means of an actuating means and which embraces the inner rim of the brake disc. Two radially extending legs and a substantially axially extending bridge portion connect the two legs. A first brake pad is disposed and supported on one side of the brake disc, in particular in the brake support member and to which pressure can be applied directly by the actuating means. A second brake pad is disposed and supported on the other side of the brake disc, in particular on the brake housing and which can be applied by the respective leg of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4856620
Abstract: A spot-type disc brake comprises a brake support member and a brake caliper guided via pins mounted in the brake support member. The brake caliper pressurizes the brake shoes arranged on either side of a brake disc by virtue of a brake piston on a bore. The brake shoe lying opposite to the piston is supported on the end face in the brake caliper, while the other brake shoe bears against the end face in the brake support member. To prevent inclined positioning of the brake caliper which results in tapered wear at the brake shoes, the retaining arm arranged in the brake disc's direction of rotation at the brake disc exit is dimensioned such in cross-section that its deformation in the circumferential direction of the brake disc will not be much larger than the fit clearance available between the brake piston and the bore.

  • Patent number: 4736822
Abstract: A brake pad retention spring for spot-type disc brakes for automotive vehicles is disclosed including a fastening section for securing the spring to a pad backing plate and three spring arms for engagement into a brake member such as a brake piston wherein two of the spring arms extend substantially in a circumferential direction relative to the brake disc and the third spring arm extends substantially in a radial direction. In order to permit radial pad replacement with comparatively thin pads with the housing in its mounted position, the invention provides for the radial spring arm to have a bent section extending substantially parallel to the backing plate and having an adjacent end section extending substantially radially.
