  • Patent number: 4713923
Abstract: A construction method is disclosed which utilizes entirely squared-end framing members to build a pitched roof building.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 13, 1985
Date of Patent: December 22, 1987
    Assignee: United Steel Products Company
Inventors: Ulrich Sielaff, David O. Hamel
  • Patent number: 4706573
Abstract: Decorative and utilitarian modular furniture articles can be arranged into a variety of configurations embodying stacks of shelves from packaged components comprising pre-finished tubing sections with concealed cable or threaded rod fasteners supplied for being inserted into the tube sections to join the components into rigid assembly.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1985
Date of Patent: November 17, 1987
    Inventor: Ulrich Sielaff
  • Patent number: 4523412
Abstract: A hanger bracket for fastening a framing member to a strut of geodesic building structure, the struts of which define the planar faces of at least part of a regular geometric shape. The hanger bracket has a back and a top support member extending from the top end of the back and inclining toward the bottom end of the back at an angle to the back of substantially one-half the angle of intersection of the planar faces. A bottom support member is opposed to the top support member and extends parallel thereto from the bottom end of the back. The back may be fastened to a side surface of the strut with the top end extending away from the center of the geometric shape and the support members extending into the planar face of the geometric shape defined in part by the strut.

  • Patent number: 4505358
Abstract: Direct voice communication with simultaneous two-way transmission is possible with a communicator having the earpiece of the communicator at one station connected by flexible plastic tubing to the mouthpiece of a communicator at another station, the two stations being connected by two independent voice channel tubes. The provision of cross-connected channels between the mouthpiece and the earpiece of two communicating stations permits normal conversation with simultaneous two-way transmission to occur in the manner of telephonic transmission rather than requiring sequentially alternating transmission between stations as necessary in using single voice tube communicators where destructive interference occurs between sound waves transmitted simultaneously in opposite directions in a voice tube.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: March 19, 1985

  • Patent number: 4498800
Abstract: A junction plate is disclosed which is formed by stamping from a metal disk and which is adapted to secure together a plurality of main struts to form a polygonal geodesic structure, such as an icosahedron. The junction plate includes a series of main strut channels which are bent relative to a flat central portion of the plate so that they are parallel to the main struts of the structure to receive and hold the main struts in the main strut channels. There are also formed in the plate a series of auxiliary strut channels intended to receive ends of auxiliary struts which may be inserted into the structure to support the surface faces of the structure to allow easier covering of the structure using conventional building materials. The auxiliary strut channels are particularly shaped and adapted to allow easy and quick installation of auxiliary struts into the structure with a minimum of shaping necessary to the auxiliary strut.

  • Patent number: 4016864
Abstract: An instrument for withdrawing equilibrated blood gases in vivo, which comprises a tubular gas permeable membrane inserted through a cannular into the blood stream. In preferred form, the tubular membrane comprises a continuous conduit in contact with the blood. An inlet supply gas terminal is constructed for connection to a carrier gas source, and an outlet gas terminal, for connection to an appropriate analyzer. In preferred forms of the invention, a heater maintains the equilibrated gases at above normal body temperature as they pass to the analyzer; and a port is provided for drawing blood samples from the area being analyzed without dislodging the catheter.

  • Patent number: 3983864
Abstract: Method and apparatus for withdrawing and analyzing gases dissolved in liquid, more specifically, equilibrated blood gas samples in vivo. A catheter including a semipermeable membrane, connected to include a volume of carrier gas at atmospheric pressure, is introduced percutaneousluy into the bloodstream. After a predetermined period, equilibratin occurs between the blood gases and the carrier gas. By means of displacement in the volume or reduction in the pressure, the carrier gas including the equilibrated gas is then removed from the semipermeable membrane to another area for analysis. A corresponding volume of carrier gas is replaced in the semipermeable membrane from an inlet supply.
