    Abstract: In order to tighten a side air bag in the gas-filled condition, viewed in the driving direction, this side air bag is held on its forward air bag portion by way of a catch string and, on the rearward air bag portion, by way of a tightening string on respective columns of the vehicle occupant compartment. The tightening string is guided by way of a first stationary deflection member provided in the lateral roof edge area as well as around a second deflection member provided on the side air bag in it lower edge area, which second deflection member is situated between the two fastening points of the tightening string, on the one side, on a column of the vehicle occupant compartment and, on the other side, on the side air bag.

    Abstract: A side-impact airbag device for a passenger cell of a motor vehicle includes a window bag which, in the active, inflated state, has a window portion which at least partially covers a side window and extends between roof support pillars. At least one of the window portions of the window bag is assigned an additional window bag pillar portion which, in the active, inflated state, at least partially covers the associated pillar relative to the passenger cell and provides a cushion against the impact, in particular, of the head and shoulder area of a passenger. In the folded-up, uninflated fitted state, the window portion of the window bag lying stowed under a lateral end portion, is bounded at the front and rear by a windscreen and a rear window respectively, of the interior lining headliner which is mounted on the roof frame and the lateral end portion of which is moved when the window bag is triggered to free the deployment path.

    Abstract: An air bag curtain, particularly for a vehicle window, comprises several tube-shaped chambers which are arranged side-by-side. The chambers are spaced from one another and can be filled with gas and have a largely circular cross-section after being filled with gas. In the effective gas-filled position, the air bag curtain extends between two lateral fastening points. The chambers, which are crossed by a tension line connecting the two fastening points with one another, are constructed with a bulge in the crossing area which results in the oval cross-section being oriented approximately in the direction of the tension line.

    Abstract: A deformation sensor for a safety device for the protection of vehicle occupants against a side-on collision is disclosed. The deformation sensor is composed of two pressure-sensitive signal elements arranged in parallel and one behind the other, so that the deformation speed can be concluded from the time sequence of the sensor signals. The signal elements ace integrated into a protective strip of the vehicle mounted on the outside of the shell. This ensures a rapid response in the event of a collision, and moreover the assembly of the deformation sensor becomes much easier. The signal elements take the form of FSR foil pressure sensors (Force Sensing Resistor).
