  • Patent number: 5747170
Abstract: A bombardment-inhibiting bulletproof glass pane for automobiles, composed of a plurality of silicate glass sheets (16, 17, 18, 19), connected together by thermoplastic intermediate layers (20, 21, 22). The pane may also comprise a silicate glass sheet (16) having a high absorption action in the spectral range from 780 to 1,200 nm. This silicate glass sheet (16) or another of the glass sheets (17, 18, 19) constituting the bulletproof glass pane may be provided, on one of its surfaces, with a partially reflecting surface coating (23), which has a high reflection in the spectral range of 780 to 1,200 nm. The bulletproof glass pane has, in total, a total light transmittance of less than 15%, and preferably of less than 10% in the spectral range from 780 to 1,200 nm. Bulletproof glass panes constructed in this manner offer a high security during night travel, because they are non-transparent to infrared sighting devices and noctovisers (night viewing devices).

  • Patent number: 5496643
Abstract: The invention provides a bombardment-inhibiting bulletproof glass pane or automobiles, composed of a plurality of silicate glass panes with intermediate layers of thermoplastics polymer disposed between them. On the interior surface of the bulletproof glass pane, a sheet or plate of impact-resistant plastics material is mounted by means of a thermoplastics adhesive film such that, in the installed state, this sheet faces towards the passenger compartment. On the exterior surface of the bulletproof glass pane is a scratch-resistant coating.

  • Patent number: 4713305
Abstract: In galvanic high-energy cells with negative light-metal electrodes (e.g., Li) and electrolyte component solvents including ether with a CH bond activated by the neighboring groups --O--, .dbd.CO or .dbd.N, the formation of explosive peroxides is inhibited by adding stabilizer substances to the electrolyte in amounts of about 100 ppm. These stabilizer substances can include alkyl-substituted phenols, especially 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol, and readily oxidizable organosulfur and organophosphorus compounds such as trimethylphosphite. This permits safe handling of the cells, even under unusual operating conditions (e.g., prolonged overcharging at high current).

  • Patent number: 4504120
Abstract: By use of new ion conducting but non-electron conducting mixed crystal compounds of the type sodium zirconium phosphatosilicate as the ceramic board material for electronic circuitry it is possible to provide full integration of electronic, electro-chemical and optical components, because the boards simultaneously constitute the solid electrolyte for the miniaturized batteries serving as energy source, and for an electrochromic display system. An illustrative practical embodiment involves housing within a ceramic multi-layer structure a battery with positive electrode and negative electrode for a quartz driving circuit and an electrochromic (ECD) display controlled by an microprocessor. For the flow of current through the ECD there is used a secondary element formed of a WO.sub.3 electrode and a Na-tungstenate electrode as the counter electrode, the WO.sub.3 segments assuming a blue color due to diffusion of Na.sup.+ ions.

  • Patent number: 4448860
Abstract: Non-aqueous alkaline cells, particularly those with Li anodes, are effectively protected against oxidation or carbonization due to inwardly diffusing moisture by providing them with a getter material of high specific adsorbtivity for gases. For this, there are particularly useful molecular sieves of the Zeolite type, of highly active aluminum oxide, or of silica gel. For retaining the getter, there can be used as receptor media the porous separator or the solid cathode material, and if appropriate also the solid electrolyte. In addition, the getter material can form an extrudable or injectable composite polymer with the plastic of a conventional housing seal, which functions as a water vapor barrier right in the sealing region.

  • Patent number: 4424262
Abstract: Electrochemical storage cell with liquid sodium anode and liquid sulfur cathode disposed in a multiplicity of parallel-connected anode and cathode spaces in a part made of a ceramic, ion-conducting solid electrolyte material. The solid electrolyte part comprises profiled ceramic plates which have been sintered together and form mutually parallel channels with thin partitioning walls. The anode spaces formed by the channels are open at the upper end and closed at the opposite end, and the upper ends communicate with a sodium supply. The cathode spaces are open at the upper and lower ends and communicate with a sulfur and cell reaction products supply. Metallic collectors are sunk into the cathode spaces.

  • Patent number: 4394280
Abstract: A mixed crystal of the general compositionNa.sub.1+ax Zr.sub.2+22/3x-ax Si.sub.x P.sub.3-x O.sub.12-2/3xwith 0.8.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.0.9 and 1.8.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.2.3, has a particularly favorable Na-ion conductivity, particularly when a=0.88 and x=2.2. This makes its use desirable as the solid electrolyte in Na/S cells. The high density of the single phase monoclinic crystallized material, which reaches almost 3.10 g/cm.sup.3, is the result of high temperature sintering, carried out in pure oxygen.
