  • Publication number: 20250106907
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using a QUIC connection established between a user equipment (UE) and a Non-3GPP InterWorking Function (N3IWF) to support untrusted non-3GPP access which facilitates Access Traffic Steering, Switching, and Splitting (ATSSS) are described. An exemplary N3IWF, implemented in accordance with features of the present invention, implements MASQUE over QUIC. In some embodiments, the Multiplexed Application Substrate over QUIC Encryption (MASQUE) over QUIC implementation as the transport for NAS. In some embodiments, QUIC connection IDs are used to delineate control plane (CP) traffic and user plane traffic being communicated over the established QUIC connection. In other embodiments, a new 3GPP Payload type header is used to delineate between control plane (CP) traffic and user plane traffic communicated over the established QUIC connection.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using a QUIC connection established between a user equipment (UE) and a Trusted Non-3GPP Gateway Function (TNGF) to support trusted non-3GPP access which facilitates Access Traffic Steering, Switching, and Splitting (ATSSS) are described. An exemplary TGNF, implements Multiplexed Application Substrate over QUIC Encryption (MASQUE) over QUIC.

  • Publication number: 20250063449
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for supporting EAP re-authentication for devices, e.g., UEs, connecting to APs such as WiFi APs, which are not 3GPP base stations such as gNBs are described. In accordance with the invention an ER service which supports EAP re-authentication is incorporated into an NSWOF which is coupled to multiple different APs. Once authenticated through the NSWOF via an EAP authorization process the ER service in the NSWOF stores UE re-authorization information and uses the information to re-authenticate a UE when it attaches to another AP to which the NSWOF is coupled. By supporting EAP re-authentication the need to contact an AUSF as part of a full authentication process is avoided and a UE can rapidly move between APs without having to perform a full EAP authentication involving contacting the AUSF each time the UE moves.

  • Publication number: 20230397046
Abstract: Various embodiments comprise systems, methods, architectures, mechanisms and apparatus for managing UE migration or offloading from mobile network operators (MNO) cells to mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) cells (optionally access points) in a dual-network deployment use case by identifying and communicating one or more dynamic traffic offload policies to UE(s) based information provided by MVNO subscriber UEs and/or information generated by the network itself. In this manner, the MVNO network operator may control an amount of traffic in the MVNO small cell network while avoiding or at least reducing negative end-user experience. In various embodiments, the UE offloaded from the MNO to the MVNO may be roaming UE associated with a different MVNO.

  • Patent number: 11729864
Abstract: A network server selects a gateway, from among a plurality of alternative candidate gateways, to use for downlink wireless communication to an end node (EN) based on additional factors in addition to RSSI. Exemplary additional factors include: SNR, gateway loading, message loading, backhaul network loading, device type, application type, application priority, operator preferences, device/application black-lists, white-lists, and red-lists, number of devices, number of transmitting devices in a given time interval, operator rules and priorities. In some embodiments, the network server calculates a composite weighted metric (CWM) for each of the alternative candidate gateways which may be used for downlink, subject to operator policy rules, and selects to use a gateway based on the results, e.g. selects the gateway with the highest CWM.

  • Publication number: 20220095241
Abstract: An end point (EP) device may communicate with multiple gateways via wireless signals, e.g. wireless broadcast signals. An EP device is controlled, under the direction of a control server, e.g., an application server, to communicate via a single gateway. The control server associates the EP device with a single target gateway and/or uses EP transmission power control training iterations to reduce the EP transmission power level until the EP device is only able to successfully communicate its wireless signals to a single gateway.
