  • Patent number: 5456635
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for affixing heads to headless fasteners to form webs thereof, wherein the headless fasteners are equally spaced apart a given spacing. The web of headless fasteners is conveyed to and disposed so that each of a first set of headless fasteners is disposed in an aligned relationship to corresponding ones of a plurality of "n" head affixing devices. The head affixing devices are spaced from each other a distance equal to the product of the given spacing and ("n".+-.1). The plurality of head affixing devices are actuated to fasten "n" heads to their aligned fasteners of the web. Thereafter, the web is moved with respect to the plurality of "n" head affixing devices a distance equal to the product of "n" and the given spacing to align each of a second, different set of fasteners of the web to corresponding ones of the plurality of "n" head affixing devices.

  • Patent number: 5350103
Abstract: A nose assembly of a fastener driving tool is disclosed for facilitating the removal of any jammed fasteners, which become lodged in the nose assembly. The nose assembly has a front and back plate pivotally connected to define therebetween a drive track. The back plate is secured to a housing structure adapted to drive a fastener from a drive track into a workpiece. A magazine assembly for storing a strip of the fasteners is adapted to feed the leading fastener into the drive track. In its operative position, the leading fastener within the magazine assembly is positioned in the drive track abuting the front plate. To remove any jammed fastener, the front plate is pivoted to an inoperative position to expose the jammed fastener in the drive track for easy removal.

  • Patent number: 5207143
Abstract: A pneumatic operated fastener driving device having a trigger valve and an improved main valve with a flexible membrane that controls the flow of compressed air to and from the cylinder. The flexible membrane maintains the main valve close no matter when the tool is connected or disconnect to an air supply line. Further, the main valve including the flexible membrane are designed and constructed to undergo a high number of tool cycles to provide long wear and low maintenance.

  • Patent number: 5181450
Abstract: A pneumatic operated fastener driving device having an improved piston, which together with the cylinder form an elastic interference fit connection so that the piston is held from movement until a sufficient air pressure is applied to the piston. The piston has little or no frictional resistance with the inner surface of the cylinder during the driving or return stroke.

  • Patent number: 5140715
Abstract: An apparatus and a process for continuously producing an assembly of headed fasteners of uniform length. The fasteners, fixed in either an equally spaced apart parallel relationship or in a contiguous parallel relationship, are produced by providing at least one strand of wire in straight and untwisted form, cutting the wire into headless fasteners of uniform length, transferring the headless fasteners onto a guide track in parallel, adjacent alignment, collating the headless fasteners to form a continuous web thereof, conveying the continuous web of headless fasteners into a clamping block and then forming a head from one end of the fasteners to form the headed fastener.

  • Patent number: 5020712
Abstract: A fastener driving device of pneumatic type comprises a piston (20) within a cylinder (49), and a driver (21), connected to the piston (20) and movable through a fastener driving throat (26) formed by the housing of the device. A chamber (52) is provided within the housing to function as an air pressure reservoir. First and second valves (15) provide an appreciably lower pressurized air to the underside of the piston (20). The valves (15) are so arranged that when they are in a first position they allow a flow of pressurized air from the reservoir (18) to the underside of the piston (20) and after the pressurized air under the piston (20) increases to a reduced predetermined ratio to that in the reservoir (18), the valves (15) shift to a second position blocking the flow. The valves (15) are capable of shifting to a third position allowing communication of the air pressure under the piston (20) with atmosphere while continuing to block communication with the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4614291
Abstract: A guide bench, or magazine, for fastener elements. Formed mainly of plastics, a first metal portion is embedded to provide a surface of an ejection runway and a further metal portion is embedded to provide a retaining surface. If desired, the two metal portions can form integral parts of a single metal reinforcing member extending the length of the bench.

  • Patent number: 4211351
Abstract: In a pistol-grip tool for driving tacks, staples and the like, the improvement consisting in that the guiding bench for the staples to be ejected and driven is made partly of a moulded plastics material and partly of metal insets. The central portion or core of the guiding bench is of properly shaped plastics material, the insets are placed at both ends of the bench and are solidly embedded in the plastics material by a single molding stroke so as to form an entity. The entire structure is lightweight without giving up robustness and wear resistance in the points in which these properties are vital.

Abstract: This invention relates to a loader particularly for a tacking machine. The loader according to the invention comprises a drum having a cylindrical side wall provided with a helical slot for receiving the shanks of the tacks of a flexible tack strip wound onto the drum. The drum is mounted onto an idle pivot pin within a housing space defined between two half-box shaped bodies connected to one another. Said half-box bodies further define an outlet mouth for the tack strip which mouth is aligned with the magazine inlet of the machine, while the axis of the pivot pin is perpendicular to those of the magazine and the firing nose.

  • Patent number: 3945550
Abstract: There is disclosed a staple-feeding magazine for a stapler of the kind comprising a driving channel, a staple driver having work and return strokes within the driving channel and a staple-feeding magazine connected to the driving channel. In order to allow the rear-loading of the staples without involving any bulk problem, the magazine has the baseplate rearwardly extending with respect to the open rear end of the staple guiding channel so as to define a projecting end portion on which anchoring means for the pusher are provided. The anchoring means are made and arranged so that the pusher, when anchored thereto, is still within the overall space of the magazine but in a depressed position at which the rear end of the guiding channel is left clear for staple loading purposes.
