Patent number: 12277794Abstract: An input device determines presence of an actual user, instead of an artifact, by using multi-wavelength reflectance spectroscopy. Light sources are operated to illuminate an object with different colors of light at different times. A detector determines, at those different times, intensity data indicative of intensity light of these different colors as reflected from the object. The intensity data is processed to determine whether the object is part of a user or is an artifact. For example, if the object is deemed to be a user, biometric input may be acquired. The biometric input may then be processed to identify the user. The input device may be used at various locations, such as at an entry portal, point of sale, and so forth.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2021Date of Patent: April 15, 2025Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Baomin Wang, Umer Shahid, Tianyi Wang, Georgios Skolianos, Rui Zhao, Manoj Aggarwal, Gerard Guy Medioni

Patent number: 12051277Abstract: A multi-sensor input device includes multi-color lights to illuminate a user's hand with various colors of light including visible and infrared, as well as sensors including a photodetector, a red-green-blue (RGB) camera, and an infrared camera. During operation, sensor data generated by the sensors may represent non-biometric input such as a barcode that is printed or shown on another device's display, biometric input such as images of surface and subcutaneous features of the user's hand, and so forth. The biometric input may then be processed to identify the user. The input device also includes antitamper features to improve security. The input device may be used at various locations, such as at an entry portal, point of sale, and so forth.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2021Date of Patent: July 30, 2024Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Amit Sharad Kulkarni, Baomin Wang, Umer Shahid, Matthew Christopher Smith, Howie Ho Wai Lau, Jennifer Li, Oluseyi Oluyemisi Babatola, Craig Black, Douglas Christopher Bruey, Charles Joseph Tucker Peach

Patent number: 11770598Abstract: A device for providing even illumination to a user’s hand or other object to acquire images of the object for biometric identification of a user, includes a camera, a first light module positioned on a first side of the camera, and a second light module positioned on a second side of the camera. The camera is positioned closer to the second light module. The second light module emits light with a lesser intensity than the first light module. Light bending films positioned adjacent to the light modules redirect emitted light toward opposite edges of the field of view of the camera. Diffusers in the path of the emitted light diffuse portions of the emitted light along the edges of the field of view. Polarizers positioned in the path of the emitted light polarize the emitted light to facilitate visualization of particular features of the hand or other object.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2019Date of Patent: September 26, 2023Assignee: AMAZON TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Rui Zhang, Markus Stefan Duelli, Umer Shahid, Baomin Wang, Prafulla Masalkar

Patent number: 11092815Abstract: A metasurface lens assembly to perform chromatic separation includes a first layer with a plurality of nanofins extending transversely there from and each being optically anisotropic and transmissive to light in the visible spectrum and having an optical characteristic that is set according to a phase profile. A second layer is spaced apart from the first layer and includes a plurality of photosensitive subpixels each associated with a different color. In operation, many beams of light may be directed onto the metasurface lens from a source with each beam of light having a plurality of component colors. The nanofins may function in combination with one another according to the phase profile to bend and focus the beams of light onto the second layer with each of the component colors being bent and focused differently to direct the component colors onto corresponding ones of the photosensitive subpixels.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2017Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: MAGNA INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Jasmin Jijina Sinkular, Boris Shulkin, Benjamin May, Joern Ihlenburg, Todd Deaville, Umer Shahid, Yuesheng Lu

Patent number: 10875403Abstract: A vision system of a vehicle includes a camera module configured to be disposed at and behind a vehicle windshield, with the camera module including a first camera and a second camera. The first camera includes a first imager and a first lens having a wide angle field of view greater than 100 degrees. The first camera is operable to capture image data for processing by an image processor. The second camera includes a second imager and a second lens having a narrow angle field of view less than 40 degrees. The second camera is operable to capture image data for displaying color images at a display screen. Image data captured by the first camera is processed to detect objects, and image data captured by the first camera is not video procesed for display of video images. The vision system switches between daytime mode and nighttime mode responsive to ambient light.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2016Date of Patent: December 29, 2020Assignee: MAGNA ELECTRONICS INC.Inventors: Christopher L. Van Dan Elzen, Yuesheng Lu, Ove Salomonsson, William J. Chundrlik, Jr., Tom H. Toma, Umer Shahid

Patent number: 10132971Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a camera configured to be disposed at a vehicle so as to have a field of view exterior of the vehicle. The camera includes a lens and an imager, and light passing through the lens is received at the imager via an optic path from the lens to the imager. The camera includes at least two spectral filters, each having a respective cutoff wavelength and (i) passing visible light below the respective cutoff wavelength, (ii) attenuating light above the respective cutoff wavelength. A control is operable to move the spectral filters relative to the optic path. The control positions a selected one of the spectral filters in the optic path so that the imager images visible light below the respective cutoff wavelength of the selected spectral filter. An image processor is operable to process image data captured by the camera.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2017Date of Patent: November 20, 2018Assignee: MAGNA ELECTRONICS INC.Inventor: Umer Shahid
