Abstract: An order processing system includes a memory and a processor to instantiate an order fulfillment application to manage an order through a location in a workflow, and instantiate a rules engine. The rules engine receives the order and the location, selects a rule based upon the location, the rule including a condition field, a result, an operator, and an action, retrieves order information from the order fulfillment application for the order based upon the condition field, compares the order information with the result based upon the operator, evaluates the rule as being in a true state or a false state based upon a result of comparing the order information with the result, and provides response information to the order fulfillment application based upon the action when the rule is evaluated as being in the true state.
