  • Publication number: 20180100413
Abstract: Disclosed is an actuator for axial displacement of an object, including a cylinder volume having a first portion, and an actuator piston disc displaceable in the axial direction in the cylinder volume between inactive and active positions, an inlet channel between a pressure fluid inlet and the first portion of the cylinder volume, a first inlet valve body in the inlet channel, an outlet channel between the first portion of the cylinder volume and a pressure fluid outlet, and an outlet valve body in the outlet channel. The slave piston is displaceable in a bore, the slave piston displacing the first inlet valve body to an active position, and interacting with an opening connecting the bore and a control pressure channel, the opening having a first flow area with the slave piston in its inactive position and a larger second flow area with the slave piston in its active position.

  • Publication number: 20170306860
Abstract: Disclosed is a combustion engine and method for engine braking therein including an intake air channel having a first pressure, a first inlet valve between the intake air channel and the cylinder volume, an exhaust air channel having a second pressure, a first outlet valve between the cylinder volume and the exhaust air channel, and a storage reservoir having a third pressure higher than the first and second pressures, the storage reservoir being arranged in controllable fluid communication with the cylinder volume. The method takes place during two-stroke cycle and includes: displacing the piston from upper dead centre (UDC) towards lower dead centre (LDC), keeping the first inlet valve open during at least part of the travel from UDC to LDC, displacing the piston from LDC towards UDC, and keeping the fluid communication between the storage reservoir and cylinder volume open during at least a part of such travel.

  • Publication number: 20170037750
Abstract: A combustion engine includes an engine valve arranged to selectively open/close a combustion chamber of the engine, a cylinder head adjacent the combustion chamber, arranged to guide a valve stem of the engine valve, the engine valve being axially displaceable relative to the cylinder head between the combustion chamber closed position and the combustion chamber fully opened position, and a valve spring retainer connected to the valve stem. The valve spring retainer partly delimits a gas spring volume, which is in fluid communication with an adjacent gas volume via a port when the engine valve is in the combustion chamber closed position, and which is separated from the adjacent gas volume when the engine valve is in the combustion chamber fully open position, the port being open during at least 25% of the maximal stroke of the engine valve and being closed due to a displacement of the engine valve.

  • Publication number: 20160237864
Abstract: A combustion engine includes, a cylinder head including a controllable first engine valve arranged to selectively open/close a combustion chamber included in the combustion engine, a first valve actuator operatively connected to the first engine valve, which first valve actuator includes at least one inlet opening for pressure fluid and at least one outlet opening for pressure fluid, and a closed pressure fluid circuit, wherein the first valve actuator is arranged in the closed pressure fluid circuit. The combustion engine further includes a cylinder head chamber that forms part of the closed pressure fluid circuit and that is delimited by the cylinder head and at least a first cylinder head mantle, wherein the at least one outlet opening of the first valve actuator is in fluid communication with the cylinder head chamber. A mantle assembly for a cylinder head of a combustion engine is also described.

  • Publication number: 20160237866
Abstract: A combustion engine includes, a first controllable engine valve (8) arranged to selectively open/close a combustion chamber (7) included in the combustion engine (1), and a gas handling system arranged to drive the first engine valve (8), which gas handling system includes a closed pneumatic pressure fluid circuit, wherein the closed pressure fluid circuit includes, coupled in series with each other, a compressor (31) and a valve actuator (10) that are operatively connected to the first engine valve (8). The combustion engine is characterized by the gas handling system further including a gas accumulator (38) that is connected with the closed pressure fluid circuit via at least one gas accumulator conduit (39), which includes a controllable valve (40). A gas handling system for pneumatic control of a valve actuator is also described.
