    Abstract: It is disclosed a device for measuring a concentration of glucose, for example, in a translucent piece of a body, like an earlobe, a tissue connecting two fingers, a nasal ala, or a cheek. The piece is illuminated by a linearly polarized laser beam at a certain polarization direction. Consequently, a diffused radiated light is emitted from the piece, including a directed beam. The device includes a polarizing beam splitter which receives the directed beam, a lens, a sensor array, and means for connecting to a processor. The splitter splits components of the directed beam at two mutually orthogonal linear polarization directions into two polarized beams propagating at two respective different directions. The lens images the distribution of the directed beam on the translucent piece on two spatially separated groups within the sensor arrays.

A method for providing power and data signals from a single powerline source, including receiving incoming VAC in an external power unit, converting the incoming VAC to DC, modulating the DC in accordance with zero crossings from the incoming VAC, filtering the VAC to isolate high frequency data signals, where the data signals are transmitted and received on a same medium from which the incoming VAC is received, and providing the DC, modulated DC, and data signals to an embedded processing unit capable of processing the data signals.

Optionally, the user could determine that certain goods could only be purchased from one or more outlets and/or from a particular type of outlet. Optionally and preferably, the optimization includes determining whether to purchase a larger amount of a product in order to enjoy price savings for that product. According to other preferred embodiments, the user may optionally choose to divide a basket of products between a plurality of suppliers, rather than optimizing the basket at a single supplier.

    Abstract: A method and system for assessing the quality of one or more search engines are provided. The method and system monitor reformulation sessions by users (201) of a search engine (308, 402, 403) by retrieving data from a query log (307, 407, 408), wherein a reformulation session is a series of at least two queries to a search engine (308) issued by a user (201) to satisfy a single information need. The method and system then determine a reformulation session parameter for the search engine (308, 402, 403) and analyse the reformulation session parameter. The reformulation session parameter may be a rate of query reformulations in a reformulation session or a reformulation session duration. Analysing the reformulation session parameter for a single search engine may determine if the parameter changes with time or may determine the parameter with different settings in a single search engine.
