  • Patent number: 7613654
Abstract: A system for dispensing funds. The system includes a non-dedicated printer adapted to print indicia of a monetary value, and a postal security device coupled to the franking machine. The postal security device includes an accounting register indicative of a value of monetary funds stored in the postal security device. The system also includes a money transfer system coupled to the franking machine and adapted to allow a user to transfer funds from the postal security device to the money transfer system and vice versa.

  • Publication number: 20060142021
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for balancing traffic load between a plurality of users on one or more shared wireless channels, e.g., from a communication node associated with a network of a plurality of cells including a first and a second cell. The method comprises determining a first indication of traffic load for a first cell and a second indication of traffic load for a second cell on the one or more shared wireless channels and redistributing the traffic load on the one or more shared wireless channels associated with the first cell and the second cell based on the first indication of traffic load for the first cell and the second indication of traffic load for the second cell. A scheduler, e.g., at a Node B and a decision algorithm at a controller, e.g.

  • Publication number: 20060068849
Abstract: It is proposed to decrease the interference in a CDMA network by automatically adapting the radiation pattern, and thereby the coverage areas, of a cell to the service coverage area without operator intervention. This will increase the overall capacity of the network, because a fully loaded cell generates less interference to neighboring cells and hence leaves more capacity in those cells. It will avoid coverage holes in case certain cells become highly loaded such that their coverage area shrinks (“cell breathing”). In an embodiment of the invention, the radiation pattern is adapted by changing the down-tilt of the antenna.

  • Publication number: 20060009158
Abstract: A method is provided of establishing or releasing a radio connection between a first mobile user station and a first cell for wireless telecommunications during a call with the first mobile user station. This is both whilst the call continues and dependent upon at least one predetermined criterion being met. This occurs in a network for wireless telecommunications handling calls with various data rates to mobile user stations such that some of the mobile user stations at a time have multiple radio connections to the network via multiple cells. A pilot signal is sent between the first cell and the first mobile user station. Received signal quality of the pilot signal between the first cell and the first mobile user station is detected. At least one predetermined criterion is selected dependent upon data rate of the call, and if it is determining that said signal quality of the pilot signal meets said at least one predetermined criterion, said radio connection is released or established.

  • Patent number: 5436935
Abstract: A synchronizing circuit comprises a controllable timer (9) and a PN-code generator (10) controllable thereby with at least three outputs (11.1, 11.2, 11.3), for the production of at least three PN-code signals phase-shifted with respect to one another. The PN-code signals phase-shifted with respect to one another are correlated, in parallel correlation paths, with the received signal. Upon the presence of a time drift, the phase position of the trailing PN-code signal, for example, is changed so that this signal is now leading. Thereby, the control range is shifted. At the same time, reassignment is effected between the correlation path and the demodulating output in such a way that in all cases the correlation path that is in the middle with respect to time and that has the maximum correlation power is utilized for demodulation.
