  • Patent number: 9260739
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the semi-quantitative determination of cariogenic bacteria in a sample of saliva and/or plaque, in which the microorganisms contained in a sample of plaque or saliva are brought into contact with a carbon source that is fermented to acid by the cariogenic bacteria. The microorganisms are then incubated under conditions which make possible selective acid formation by the cariogenic bacteria. The acid formation is then detected by determining the pH at least once within a period of 12 hours after adding the carbon source, wherein the cariogenic bacteria are determined semi-quantitatively in the sample by comparison of the pH with at least one reference value. In addition, the invention provides kits for carrying out such methods.

  • Patent number: 8656792
Abstract: A pipette device including a metering liquid receptacle designed to be filled, at least in part, with working fluid and which has a pipette opening as a first tapering of cross-section of flow, a pressure change device which is designed to change the pressure of the working fluid in the metering liquid receptacle, and a throttle point in a pipette duct designed to be filled with working fluid as a further tapering of cross-section of flow. The throttle point is arranged fluid-mechanically between the metering liquid receptacle and the pressure change device and is dimensioned in such a way that a ratio of a flow resistance of the pipette opening for dispensed metering liquid to a flow resistance of the throttle point for working fluid, which flows through the throttle point when the metering fluid is dispensed, is less than 0.5.

  • Patent number: 6248580
Abstract: Dinitrotoluene present as a contaminant in a sample, is degraded by the steps of (a) providing a sample comprising dinitrotoluene; (b) adding to the sample at least one bacterial strain capable of degrading at least one dinitrotoluene isomer under aerobic conditions; (c) producing aerobic conditions in the sample; and (d) maintaining the aerobic conditions in the sample for a time that is sufficient for the bacteria to degrade said dinitrotoluene. In one embodiment, at least one bacterial strain capable of degrading the 2,4-dinitrotoluene isomer under aerobic conditions is added to the sample. In another embodiment, at least one bacterial strain capable of degrading the 2,6-dinitrotoluene isomer under aerobic conditions is added to the sample. In yet another embodiment, at least one bacterial strain capable of degrading both the 2,4-dinitrotoluene isomer and the 2,6-dinitrotoluene isomer under aerobic conditions is added to the sample.
