Patent number: 6464811Abstract: Lamellar, fibre-reinforced plastic strips can be used to reinforce a linearly expanded or flat construction part having a support function against any bending stress to which it is exposed. The strips are usually applied to the construction from the outside, or from the inside in the case of hollow structures, and fixed by an adhesive. The lamellar strips are pretensed with a tensioning device, treated with adhesive in a pretensed state, and then moved to the area to be treated together with the tension device. The tension device is provisionally fixed to the construction with displaceable fixing devices and pressed against said construction. Thereafter the lamellar strips are pressed against the construction by means of an air bag or air hose until the adhesive has hardened.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2000Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Eidgenössiche Materialprüfungs-und Forschungsanstalt EMPAInventors: Urs Meier, Iwan Stöcklin, Andreas Winistörfer

Patent number: 6209279Abstract: In order to anchor, reinforce, affix or keep together construction or machine parts, construction members, construction works or parts thereof, or at least to apply a force component, the invention involves a looping anchor or retaining element including several supeposed belt layers or plies.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1997Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Eidgenossische Materialprufungs—und Forschungsanstalt EmpaInventors: Urs Meier, Andreas Winistoerfer

Patent number: 5937606Abstract: An arrangement and method for reinforcing a structural component utilizes an elongated strip or lamina which is applied to the surface of the structural component and which has at least one end which submerges into a recess in the surface of the component and is anchored in that recess. This has been found to greatly increase the reinforcing effect of the strip on the structure.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1997Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Assignee: Eidgenossische Materialprufungs-Und Forschungsanstalt EMPAInventors: Urs Meier, Martin Deuring, Gregor Schwegler

Patent number: 5713169Abstract: A conical anchoring system to anchor one or more loaded, stressed or pre-stressed tension elements (9) comprising a conical anchoring casing and an anchor body (7) fitting into the casing and retaining the tension element(s). The boundary surface between the anchor body and the casing wall is substantially designed to allow free sliding. To prevent the tension elements from being torn out of the anchor body or rupturing the anchor body itself, the rigidity of the gradient material forming the anchor body increases from the site of entry of the tension element at the cone, that is from the front zone, to the rear part of the anchor cone. Substantially improved shear distribution along the surface of the tension element(s) is achieved thereby over the case of substantially uniform rigidity of the anchor body.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1996Date of Patent: February 3, 1998Assignee: Eidgenossische Materialprufungsund Forschungsanstalt EMPAInventors: Urs Meier, Heinz Meier, Patrick Kim

Patent number: 5617685Abstract: In order to strengthen an elongated or a two-dimensional bearing construction structure (1) against shear forces, at least one pre-stressing means (11) is mounted in a slack or pre-stressed manner on or in the structure cross-section (4) to generate a pre-stressing force directed transversely to the length or to the two-dimensional surface of the structure when this structure is shear-loaded.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1994Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: Eidgenoessische Materialpruefungs- Und Forschungsanstalt EmpaInventors: Urs Meier, Martin Deuring, Heinz Meier

Patent number: 4534472Abstract: A guide rail for electronic module supports has at each of the front and rear ends of the guide rail body a latching element for latchable connection with a respective transverse support member, and resilient latching heads or snap-in connector tabs which engage with correspondingly formed apertures in metal strips disposed in the transverse support members. In order to halve the distance between the guide rails to one another as determined by the apertures, there are provided between the latching arms of the latching elements correspondingly shaped separating or divider elements which are selectively insertable in the apertures or on the cross-pieces disposed between the apertures. For the latchable fastening of a connector on the inner rear surface of a rack there is further provided at the rear end of the guide rail body a securing element furnished with a plug.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1983Date of Patent: August 13, 1985Assignee: Contraves AGInventors: Urs Hanseler, Urs Meier, Franz Muther

Patent number: 4525771Abstract: A modular assembly comprising a rack composed of side walls, two front and at least two rear transverse support members for the accommodation of one-tier or two-tier module supports. For the accommodation of the module supports which comprise at least one connector there are provided guide rails which are releasably attached to the transverse support members by means of resilient latching members. The guide rails each comprise securing means for attaching a connector by means of a plug. For securing two connectors there is provided in addition to the securing means of the guide rails a snap-on holder releasably attached to an intermediate transverse support member.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1983Date of Patent: June 25, 1985Assignee: Contraves AGInventors: Urs Hanseler, Urs Meier, Franz Muther
