Publication number: 20240325631Abstract: A cannula assembly includes a soft cannula, a rigid cannula, and a sealing sleeve. A soft cannula lumen surrounds at least a portion of the rigid cannula and provides a sliding connection. The sealing sleeve radially surrounds at least a portion of the soft cannula. A flange of the soft cannula has an extended wall thickness and is arranged at or near a proximal end of the soft cannula. An inner surface of the sealing sleeve engages an outer surface of the soft cannula and provides a sealing pressure radially between the rigid cannula and the soft cannula, defining a sealing area on an outer surface of the rigid cannula. A drug delivery device with the cannula assembly and an automatic insertion mechanism uses the sealing sleeve to ensure a fluid-tight, slidable connection between the soft cannula and the rigid cannula with improved sealing pressure, while allowing damage-free, cost-effective manufacturing.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 25, 2024Publication date: October 3, 2024Inventors: Ursina Streit, Jan Baumert, Michael Hanimann, Roland Margot, Fabian Steiner, Eduard Kobel

Publication number: 20230285664Abstract: The present invention concerns a drug delivery device with an electric brushless DC or stepper motor. A novel approach to motor control uses the micro-stepping technique in combination with over-revving the commutation of the stepper motor and reversing the rotor for a small number of microsteps with each delivery cycle. This approach has the effect of keeping the elasticity of the drive train behind the plunger in a relaxed state after completing a delivery cycle, providing better control of the movement of the rotor. Loss of steps can be avoided for a wide range of friction or speed situations, increasing the accuracy of drug delivery and making tracking of the rotor position and detecting loss of steps a much better parameter to detect blockage or occlusion. The increased controllability allows to substantially increase the motor speed for delivery, resulting in an optimum of energy efficiency while still ensuring reliable operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2023Publication date: September 14, 2023Inventors: Thomas Buri, Ursina Streit, Manuel Hulliger

Patent number: 11534556Abstract: Shown is a simple, reliable manner of monitoring a process of expelling a variable dose of medicament from an injection device by analyzing mechanical feedback of the injection device with reduced requirements on signal data memory space and processing power. Specific measurand and mechanical user feedback sensor configurations enable sensor signal data from which individual dosage units of expelled drug are identifiable at moderate sampling rates. Preferred configurations include a force sensor adapted to measure an axial force component as applied to the device by a user pressing a proximal injection button, and a direction sensor adapted to measure an azimuth angle of an orientation of the device. The specific measurands, or process quantities observed, relate to feedback means of the device including a resilient element that produces a number of successive mechanical feedback events proportionate to a dose or quantity of drug expelled from a medicament reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2019Date of Patent: December 27, 2022Assignee: Ypsomed AGInventors: Ursina Streit, Leos Urbanek, Michael Gentz, Jonas Rihs

Patent number: 11524118Abstract: A dosing mechanism for an injection device includes a dose-setting element with a first element coupled thereto, which, during dose setting, is rotatable relative to a second element about a main rotation axis in a first direction and, during dose discharge, is fixed in rotation relative to the second element. The first and the second elements are coupled via a sleeve-shaped stop element, which forms a stop abutment. The dosing mechanism includes a stop, and the stop abutment, during the rotation of the first element in the first direction, executes a movement to a stop position where the stop abutment strikes the stop and prevents rotation of the first element relative to the second element in the first direction of rotation. The sleeve-shaped stop element is rotatable about a secondary rotation axis, which is offset parallel to or offset at an angle to the main rotation axis.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2020Date of Patent: December 13, 2022Assignee: Ypsomed AGInventors: Susanne Schenker, Ursina Streit, Patrick Hostettler

Patent number: 11406754Abstract: A disposable module that can be coupled to a reusable module in order to form a pump for dispensing a medicament substance to a user in a metered manner in a coupled state, comprising a housing that encases the following components: a reservoir for receiving the substance to be dispensed; and at least one extensible cannula, which is fluidically connected to the reservoir either after being inserted or in a permanent manner. The disposable module may also comprise an electrical energy store, wherein the electrical energy necessary for the reusable module can be obtained both from the disposable module and also from a rechargeable battery in the reusable module, in order to ensure redundancy of the energy necessary for the reusable module.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2019Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: TECMED AGInventors: Ursina Streit, Seline Staub, Thomas Buri, Patrick Hostettler, Juerg Steck, Christophe Hofer, Andreas Koehli, Florian Kuehni, Marc Labudde, Thomas Leuzinger

Patent number: 11406768Abstract: The invention is concerned with a simple and reliable manner of monitoring a handling or use of injection devices by means of a reusable electronic module. According to the invention, a displacement of a component of the injection device between an initial position and an intermediate position, and a subsequent displacement of the same component between the intermediate position and a final position essentially identical with the initial position is observed by one and the same sensor comprised in an electronic module separate from the injection device. A status or state of the injection device is then inferred in the electronic module from these two observations by way of digitally processing sensor output information. The invention thus enables secure, easy and cost-effective operation of components, devices and systems for the generation, collection and distribution of data associated with the handling or use of the injection devices.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2019Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: Ypsomed AGInventors: Michael Gentz, Ursina Streit, Marcel Derungs, Leos Urbanek, Daniel Burgener, Jonas Rihs

Patent number: 11291771Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic add-on module which is fitted releasably onto an automatic injection appliance before the start of injection. The add-on module comprises a force sensor for measuring a time-variable axial force component exerted on or transmitted to the attached add-on module by the injection appliance during an injection procedure. The add-on module also comprises a grip or a preferred grip position for gripping and holding the add-on module and the inserted injection appliance. The add-on module can additionally have a microphone for detection of acoustic signals. A state of the injection appliance can be determined by the add-on module solely on the basis of measurements of the axial force sensor, optionally supplemented by microphone measurements. The invention thus affords a straightforward and cost-effective way of monitoring or controlling the correct performance of an injection procedure carried out with an automatic injection appliance.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2019Date of Patent: April 5, 2022Assignee: Ypsomed AGInventors: Michael Gentz, Ursina Streit, Leos Urbanek, Jonas Rihs, Bernhard Rytz, Dominic Frutiger
