Publication number: 20200393456Abstract: In one aspect, molecular sensors and methods of making molecular sensors are described herein. In some embodiments, such a sensor comprises a first layer having a dual nanohole structure and a second layer having at least one nanopore. In some embodiments, the first and second layer define a chip of the sensor. In another aspect, methods of sensing are described herein, which in some embodiments comprise (i) providing a test sample comprising complexed and/or non-complexed biomolecules; (ii) contacting the test sample with the first layer of the molecular sensor; (iii) irradiating the dual nanohole structure of the sensor with a beam of electromagnetic radiation; (iv) optically trapping the biomolecules in the dual nanohole structure and measuring a surface plasmon resonance; (v) applying an electric field across the nanopore of the sensor; and (vi) measuring change in current across the nanopore during one or more translocation events of the biomolecules.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2018Publication date: December 17, 2020Inventors: Georgios ALEXANDRAKIS, Samir M. Publication number: 20200314735Abstract: A multi-hop mesh network comprising a plurality of nodes, the plurality of nodes each comprising a receiver, a transmitter, a controller and memory storing program instructions. The plurality of nodes are suitable for participating in data relaying within the network. The plurality of nodes comprise a plurality of source nodes and a plurality of relay nodes. The plurality of source nodes advertise, via the respective transmitter at least one message in one or more advertising events, and adapt the duration of the advertising event. Each advertising event comprises the at least one message being advertised over one or more primary advertising channels.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2019Publication date: October 1, 2020Applicant: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Adnan AIJAZ, Usman RAZA

Patent number: 10790871Abstract: According to an embodiment there is provided a method of radio resource allocation performed in a gateway or network server communicatively connected to a plurality of wireless nodes. The method comprises computing, for each spreading factor out of a number of spreading factors, a probability of successful receipt of an uplink communication from a wireless node from the plurality of wireless nodes based on spreading factor settings of the plurality of wireless nodes, determining, for a given link level budget, a spreading factor that provides a maximum likelihood of successfully completing uplink communications and determining, for the determined spreading factor, a transmission power that provides the given link level budget.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2019Date of Patent: September 29, 2020Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Shengyang Li, Usman Raza, Aftab Khan

Patent number: 10462808Abstract: Arrangements described herein provide a distributed means of scheduling communications directed towards a sink node from other nodes in a multi-hop wireless network. By listening for other messages assigning schedules to other nodes, each node is able to create its own local record of scheduled transmissions in its area. This allows each node to determine a preliminary schedule. Having said this, the parent node of the node will have additional information regarding the scheduled local transmissions. Accordingly, the node sends the preliminary schedule to its parent node for confirmation that it provides no collisions/conflicts with other scheduled transmissions. As the parent node is involved in the scheduling of each child node, it is better able to determine whether the child nodes are proposing schedules that may conflict with each other.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2017Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Adnan Aijaz, Usman Raza

Patent number: 10448326Abstract: There is provided a wireless device and a method for managing a wireless device for wireless transmission over a multi-hop wireless network, the wireless device comprising a wireless interface and a controller. A schedule of timeslots for transmitting and timeslots for receiving messages is determined based on which layer of the network the wireless device occupies. A transmission from a first node is received during a scheduled timeslot for receiving messages, the transmission comprising a message. The message is added to a queue of messages. In response to a signal being received via the wireless interface indicating that another node in the network has received the message, the message is removed from the queue of messages. During a scheduled timeslot for transmitting messages, at least one message from the queue of messages is transmitted to nodes in a layer closer to the sink than the wireless device.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2016Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Yichao Jin, Usman Raza
