  • Patent number: 8401409
Abstract: In a method or system for generation of a toner image layer with a preset layer thickness on a surface of a photoconductor, the two-component mixture of electrically charged toner particles and carrier particles is directed on an auto-surface of a roller adjacent a surface of an applicator element to be inked. At least a portion of the toner particles is transferred onto the surface of the applicator element. An electrical field is generated that exerts at least one force on a portion of the electrically charged toner particles between the roller and the applicator element. A strength of the electrical field is varied to adjust a layer thickness of a layer of the toner particles transferred onto the surface of the applicator element and thus to adjust a thickness of the toner image layer on the photoconductor. A measurement arrangement detects a thickness of at least one region of the toner image layer inked on the surface of the photoconductor as a real value.

  • Patent number: 8068753
Abstract: In a method or control device for controlling an electrophotographic printer or copier that has at least two developer stations, during a print operation print data is used to determine which developer stations are needed for printing of the data. In the event it is established that a developer station was not need or will not be needed for a predetermined time span, the developer station is shifted into a standby state in which at least one part of mechanical actuators of the developer station is stopped.

  • Patent number: 8023838
Abstract: In a method or system for controlling an electrophotographic printer or copier that has at least one developer station, a toner discharge from the developer station is detected during the print operation and a developer regeneration process is started when the detected toner discharge fulfills a predetermined first regeneration criterion. A charge image is generated on the photoconductor, the charge image is developed by the developer station, and the developed image is removed by a cleaning device without being transferred as printed onto a recording medium. New toner is introduced into the developer station. Also in accordance with the method or system for controlling an electrophotographic printer or copier that has at least two developer stations, during a print operation the print data is used to determine which developer stations are needed for printing of the data.

  • Patent number: 7865117
Abstract: In a developer station for a printer or copier, a rotating developer roller is provided having a mixture of toner particles and ferromagnetic carrier particles accumulated on a surface of the developer roller as a layer, and a transfer zone at which the toner particles are transferred away from the developer roller. A smoothing device is provided with a smoothing element arranged before the transfer zone, the smoothing element being charged with a mechanical tension in a rest state of the developer roller and designed such that it exerts a force on and over an entire width of the layer formed by the mixture of the toner particles and the carrier particles present on the developer roller and smoothes the layer before the transfer of the toner particles. Within the developer roller at least one magnet is provided. The smoothing element comprises a magnetizable material attracted toward said at least one magnet to create said mechanical tension.

  • Patent number: 7546070
Abstract: In a method or system where inking in an electrophotographic printer or copier, a magnetic roller is provided having a rotatable magnetic roller sleeve having a circumferential surface to which a two-component mixture comprising toner particles and ferro-magnetic carrier particles adheres. An applicator element has a circumferential surface to be inked with toner particles and past which the two-component mixture adhering to the circumferential surface of the magnetic roller is guided to produce a toner layer on the applicator element. The magnetic roller has a magnetic rotor which comprises magnetic elements and arranged inside the magnetic roller sleeve. A magnetic rotor and the magnetic roller sleeve are moveable relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 7099608
Abstract: In a device and method for developing a charge image on a photoconductor of an electrophotographic printer or copier, a developer chamber is provided having a first and a second end in which at least a portion of the developer is contained. A mixer is provided for thoroughly mixing the developer in the developer chamber. The mixer generates a flow of the developer that is directed from a first end of the developer chamber to a second end. An inlet for developer is provided at the first end of the developer chamber and an overflow is provided at the second end. The developer exits the developer chamber via the overflow when its level in the region of the second end exceeds a prescribed height. A conveyor conveys the developer that has exited the developer chamber at the overflow toward the inlet.
