  • Patent number: 11754015
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine which has at least one injector and in which a correction of fuel injection quantity is implemented. For the correction of the fuel injection quantity, different properties of the injector in the ballistic working range thereof and in the linear working range thereof are evaluated. A total injection quantity of the injector demanded in an operating cycle is divided into a number of smaller, equal partial injection quantities implemented as partial pulses, and an evaluation of the pressure drops triggered by the partial pulses is performed in the correction of the fuel injection quantity. The disclosure furthermore relates to a device for operating an internal combustion engine which has at least one injector and in which a correction of the fuel injection quantity is implemented.

  • Patent number: 11566578
Abstract: A method for operating a combustion engine performing an injection quantity correction is described. A total injection quantity per pulse of an injector is divided into a plurality of smaller equal quantity pulses. The smaller quantity pulses are implemented in ballistic injector mode. On the basis of this step, a corresponding offset correction is carried out. After the offset correction has been applied, a further correction is carried out in linear injector mode. An additional alternative for performing an injection quantity correction without additional sensor hardware is thereby provided.

  • Patent number: 9450521
Abstract: A method is disclosed for driving a piezoelectric actuator with a piezoelectric stack, which is operated as an actuating element of an injector. The piezoelectric stack is polarized during production by a polarization process initially with a first field strength, which results in a first length of the piezoelectric stack. According to the method, the piezoelectric stack is driven during operation at a second field strength, which is smaller than the first field strength, wherein a setpoint length for the piezoelectric stack is defined depending on the second field strength. In addition, a change in length caused by depolarization from the setpoint length of the piezoelectric stack is monitored. Then, when a predetermined threshold value for the change in length is reached, the piezoelectric stack is operated at a third field strength until the setpoint length for said piezoelectric stack is reached.

  • Patent number: 9255540
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine and an internal combustion engine are described. In order to recognize and correct the drift in the amount of fuel injected over the service life of the injectors of the injection system of the internal combustion engine, multiple different corrective functions are used to establish corrected individual characteristics relative to nominal characteristics. Each offset of the corrected individual characteristic from the nominal characteristics is determined, offset curves are created, and the sections of the individual offset curves representing a minimal offset are used as control data for the amount of fuel to be injected, thus making it possible to always achieve overall optimal control with a minimal difference in the amount of injected fuel.

  • Patent number: 9217406
Abstract: An electrically controllable electromechanical inlet valve (2a) which is closed in the currentless state and is held in the closed state by the force of a spring (2b), an outlet valve (5a), and a displacement element (6), the inlet valve is operated in a self-controlling operating mode after a start command is present. In the self-controlling operating mode, the rail pressure is built without knowledge of the phase position of the displacement element. During the self-controlling operating mode, the phase position of the displacement element is determined. After the phase position of the piston or displacement element is determined, the inlet valve is switched over to a non-self-controlling operating mode.

  • Patent number: 9200584
Abstract: Each cylinder bank of the internal combustion engine is assigned in each case one injection event memory (EES), an injection determining process (EEP) and an injection execution process (EAP). In the respective injection determining process (EEP), desired injection events (EE) are determined for the associated cylinder bank. These injection events are stored in succession in the respectively associated injection event memory (EES). In the respective injection execution process (EAP), injection events (EE) are retrieved in succession from the associated injection event memory (EES) and executed in a sequence in which they were stored in the associated injection event memory (EES) by the associated injection determining process (EEP) (FIFO: first in first out). The in each case next injection event (EE) is executed only after the end of an execution of the in each case previously executed injection event (EE).
