  • Patent number: 7424399
Abstract: A service provider receives fluid test data generated from multiple different entities and permits authorized users affiliated with the different entities, as well as others, to visualize information associated with that data to via the Internet using graphical computer interfaces at respective computers. The fluid test data can be gathered using portable sensor units equipped with GPS and wireless communication to transmit the fluid test data and geographical information to the service provider.

    Filed: June 9, 2006
Date of Patent: September 9, 2008
    Assignee: GE Analytical Instruments, Inc.
Inventors: Malcolm R. Kahn, Uwe Michalak, Dimitris Papageorgiou
  • Publication number: 20080109175
Abstract: A method of monitoring the movement of fluid through a fluid distribution network is described. The introduction of an additive to fluid is controlled at a control point in a fluid distribution network, and a concentration pulse in a concentration of the additive in the fluid is generated. Amounts of the additive are measured as a function of time using a plurality of sensor units located at identified locations in the fluid distribution network over a geographic area, wherein the sensor units communicate with one or more communication networks. Measurement data corresponding to measured amounts of the additive is received from the sensor units with a computer system, and the measurement data is processed with the computer system to generate information indicative of movement of fluid in the fluid distribution network.

  • Publication number: 20060020427
Abstract: A method of monitoring fluid quality is described. At least one of raw fluid quality data and processed fluid quality data is communicated from one or more portable sensor units configured for wireless communication to one or more wireless transceivers, the raw fluid quality data and processed fluid quality data having been generated based upon measurements made using the portable sensor unit(s) at different locations corresponding to different points of fluid delivery. The locations are controlled by separate entities. At least one of the raw fluid quality data and the processed fluid quality data is communicated from the wireless transceiver(s) to a data collection system. At least one of the raw fluid quality data, the processed fluid quality data, and fluid quality measures derived therefrom is communicated to additional entities other than the separate entities.
