  • Publication number: 20110173956
Abstract: A particle trap disposed between an exhaust gas line and an exhaust gas recirculation line includes at least one partially permeable hollow body separating the exhaust gas recirculation line from the exhaust gas line. The at least one partially permeable hollow body has a wall defining a primary shape with an inner space having at least one open side. The wall is gas-permeable and has a secondary structure with elevations and depressions. An automobile having a particle trap is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6689327
Abstract: A catalytic converter for vehicles with internal combustion engines which is especially suited for catalytically cleaning exhaust gas with large proportions of hydrocarbons. The converter includes a jacket tube, in which one or more metal sheets are disposed. The metal sheets are at least partially coated with a catalytically active material and they are disposed in the vicinity of an inner wall surface of the jacket tube. A predominant portion of the cross-sectional area of the jacket tube is free of metal sheets with catalytically active material. The metal sheets may be structured at least in partial regions, with corrugations and/or perforations. A catalytic converter assembly includes two converter reactors connected one after the other in the exhaust gas flow.

  • Patent number: 6660235
Abstract: A catalyst carrier configuration includes a housing and at least one catalyst carrier body disposed in the housing. The catalyst carrier body has partition walls defining a plurality of passages for an exhaust gas. A flange surrounds the catalyst carrier body and extends radially outwards from the catalyst carrier body. The flange has a section that extends at least partially into an outer wall of the housing and can be disposed between a cylinder head and a manifold of an internal combustion engine. The catalyst carrier configuration can be mounted close an internal combustion engine. A structural unit having at least two catalyst carrier configurations and an exhaust system are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6497039
Abstract: A method of producing an encased honeycombed body, in particular a supporting body of a catalytic converter, includes the steps of producing a honeycombed body by stacking and/or winding sheet metal layers, of which at least some are structured sheet metal layers, so that the honeycomb body has channels through which a fluid can flow. A sleeve is introduced into a tubular jacket. The sleeve is smaller in the axial direction than the axial length of the honeycomb body and the tubular jacket. The sleeve has an outer circumferential surface which substantially bears against a part of the inner wall of the tubular jacket. The honeycomb body is introduced into the tubular jacket and into the sleeve and is connected to the tubular jacket and the sleeve. If required, the tubular jacket may also be connected to the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6485694
Abstract: A catalytic converter assembly for an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine, in particular for a small engine. The catalytic converter assembly has a housing and a catalytic converter formed of at most two layers formed of sheets disposed in the housing. The catalytic converter has an at least partially curved elongated body and at least one structured sheet with a structuring and a catalytically active material. The at least one structured sheet is wound on inclinedly around the elongated body and at least partially bears against the housing. The structuring of the at least one structured sheet in addition with one of the housing and a sheet of a layer of the at most two layers define closed passages there-between through which exhaust gases can flow and such that, as considered over the cross-section of the housing, a cross-sectional area bordered in by the closed passages constitutes at least half of a total of the cross-sectional area of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6368726
Abstract: A honeycomb body configuration includes a honeycomb body with a fluid inlet side and a fluid outlet side. The honeycomb body is formed of at least partially structured sheet metal layers which form channels through which a fluid can flow. The honeycomb body is surrounded by an inner tubular jacket and an outer tubular jacket provided concentrically in relation thereto. The inner tubular jacket is configured as a corrugated hose in at least one axial subregion thereof. The inner tubular jacket has at least one further axial subregion which lies smoothly against the honeycomb body. The corrugated subregion and the outer tubular jacket are connected at least in a longitudinal partial region of the corrugated subregion.

  • Patent number: 5976473
Abstract: The catalytic converter configuration for exhaust systems of motor vehicles, in particular Otto engines, conducts the exhaust (at least in portions thereof) in two or more separate systems. Each system is provided with at least one catalytic converter with axial flow passages. The catalytic converters are combined into a shared monolith for the two systems which is provided with a partition at one or both of the end faces. The partition divides the cross section of the shell and it is positioned so close to the face of the honeycomb body as to be virtually seal-tight.
