  • Patent number: 8027261
Abstract: Network parameters are tracked in a communication network, particularly in a packet-based IP network. A traffic matrix for the network is regularly ascertained and a blocking probability for traffic subject to an access control is determined from a current traffic matrix. A check determines whether the blocking probability satisfies a criterion for scheduled network operation. If the criterion is not satisfied and/or redetermination for limits used as part of the access controls using the current traffic matrix does not result in a blocking probability satisfying the criterion then the current traffic matrix is used to determine a new link/cost metric for optimizing traffic transport through the network. New values for limits used as part of the access controls are determined based on the new link/cost metric. If the criterion is then satisfied with the limits fixed at the new values, the link weights are configured with the new link/cost metric in the network and the limits are stipulated at the new values.

  • Patent number: 7920463
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a network control unit for deactivating a network component for example, one or several connections or an entire network node, the method being used to carry out deactivation in simple manner without impairing the traffic and optionally, the reliability. The invention also relates to a method for deactivating a network component, in particular one or several connections and/or a network node in a communication network including a plurality of network components. The method includes: a) the network components which are to be deactivated are identified; b) a new metric set (M1) for the remaining network components is calculated c) the new metric set is configured in the network and the network is rerouted; and d) the network components which are to be deactivated are removed.

  • Publication number: 20080101255
Abstract: In one aspect method and device for tracking network parameters of a communications network, which is formed by links, with access controls for the purpose of limiting the traffic load are provided. The traffic matrix of the network is regularly determined and probabilities of the blocking of traffic are determined based on the traffic matrix. If the blocking probabilities exceed a criterion, typically a maximum blocking probability, the access controls are oppositely controlled in an automatic manner by resetting the limits for the access controls. This resetting can precede a resetting of link weights for optimizing the distribution of traffic in the network. Automatic continuous adaptation of network parameters for optimizing the probability of authorization is enabled for the traffic flows to be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20080019375
Abstract: In one aspect, the probability of non-admittance of traffic is determined and weighed according to the admittance threshold value. Also, the probability of non-compliance of at least one service quality characteristic is determined and weighed during the transfer of traffic according to the admittance threshold value. The optimum admittance threshold value for traffic is determined according to the weighted probabilities.

  • Publication number: 20070263540
Abstract: There is described a method and a configuration system for the automatic readjustment of limits for access controls used to restrict the traffic in a communication network formed by links, said communication network comprising control bodies for performing the access controls. The readjustment of limits for access controls is triggered by an event. A traffic matrix of the network is recorded in the configuration system of the communication network, and a recalculation of link weights is carried out by the configuration system by means of a traffic matrix. New limits are determined limits are respectively transmitted to associated control bodies for performing the access restriction and are activated for access controls. The method enables the limits for the access controls to be automatically monitored.
