  • Patent number: 10064130
Abstract: A system and method for reducing power consumption in a mobile communication device is disclosed. The device may have multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs), wherein each SIM is associated with a subscription. The method may include measuring received signal strengths from one or more cells for use with a first subscription. The method may also include sharing the search results for use with a second subscription. The first subscription and the second subscription may be associated with the same or difference cells and radio access technologies. The method may also include refraining from measuring the received signal strengths of the one or more cells for use with the second subscription, based on the search results.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 2, 2016
Date of Patent: August 28, 2018
    Assignee: QUALCOMM Incorporated
Inventors: Sundaresan Tambaram Kailasam, Uzma Khan Qazi, Sunil Kumar Gurram, Harish Venkatachari, Shashank V. Maiya, Bhupesh Manoharlal Umatt

  • Publication number: 20170353974
Abstract: A page reception method for the multi-subscriber identity module (SIM) mobile communication device includes: determining whether one or more upcoming system information block (SIB) system frame numbers (SFNs) will overlap with a PICH occasion on a paging indicator channel (PICH) for a subscription; in response to determining that the one or more upcoming SIB SFNs will overlap with the PICH occasion, identifying a repetition period of the one or more upcoming SIB SFNs; determining whether the repetition period of the one or more upcoming SIB SFNs is not less than a discontinuous reception receive (DRx) cycle for the PICH occasion; and in response to determining that the repetition period of the one or more upcoming SIB SFNs is not less than the discontinuous reception cycle for the PICH occasion, preventing decoding of the one or more upcoming SIB SFNs that overlap with the PICH occasion.

  • Patent number: 9749946
Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and apparatus for improved reselection during mode transitions at a user equipment (UE). For example, the disclosure presents a method for identifying that a user equipment (UE) has started switching from a first priority scheduling mode to a second priority scheduling mode while making measurements for reselection. In addition, such an example method, may include initiating a mode transition timer in response to the identification and triggering a search for one or more frequencies of the second priority scheduling mode upon expiration of the mode transition timer. As such, an improved reselection during mode transitions at UE may be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20150079988
Abstract: Cell reselection for transitioning a user device from a macro cell to a small cell may be performed by comparing a first reselection candidate small cell and a second reselection candidate small cell based on reselection criteria, and selecting a final reselection candidate based on the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20150065109
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for improved power management of a user equipment (UE) are presented. In an aspect, an example method is presented that includes detecting a first trigger event, transitioning an operational mode of the UE from a first mode to a second mode based on detecting the first trigger event, wherein a paging cycle rate and a cell measurement rate of the UE are based on the operational mode of the UE. The example method further includes monitoring a paging channel of a serving cell associated with the UE according to the paging cycle rate and performing cell measurement of one or more available cells according to the cell measurement rate while the UE is operating according to the second mode. Furthermore, the example method includes detecting a second trigger event and transitioning the operational mode of the UE from the second mode to the first mode.
