Abstract: Therapeutic and prophylactic therapies for rheumatoid arthritis are provided, as are related pharmaceutical compositions. Methods provide for the early detection of subjects at risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis, thus allowing for early intervention, and include methods of sample preparation.

Abstract: The present invention provides delivery methods and constructs for treating inflammatory diseases in an individual. The targeted delivery approach utilizes an antibody that recognizes an epitope found to be present at sites of inflammation. The antibody is used to deliver a MAp44 polypeptide or fragment thereof to sites of inflammation, where it inhibits the lectin pathway of complement activation.

Abstract: Modulation of the complement system represents a therapeutic modality for numerous pathologic conditions associated with complement activation. In a strategy to prepare complement inhibitors that are targeted to sites of complement activation and disease, compositions comprising a complement inhibitor linked to complement receptor (CR) 2 are disclosed. The disclosed are compositions can be used in methods of treating pathogenic diseases and inflammatory conditions by modulating the complement system.

Abstract: Disclosed are novel inhibitors of the alternative complement pathway and particularly, novel anti-factor B antibodies. Also disclosed is the use of such inhibitors to reduce or prevent airway hyperresponsiveness and/or airway inflammation by selectively inhibiting the alternative complement pathway, thereby treating diseases in which such conditions play a role. Also disclosed is the use of such inhibitors to reduce or prevent other diseases and conditions, including ischemia-reperfusion injury, by inhibition of the alternative complement pathway.

Abstract: Described are methods for treating, preventing, or reducing the risk of, miscarriages, especially recurrent miscarriages. The methods comprise administering to a female subject a therapeutic agent that modulates the activity or binding of components of the complement system, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. For example, the therapeutic agent can be a C3-convertase inhibitor, an antibody against C5, an antagonist of the C5a receptor, or an antibody against factor B or factor D. Screening methods for agents that can prevent or reduce the risk of miscarriages, especially recurrent miscarriages, are also described.
