  • Patent number: 10819833
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling dynamic reroute in a redundant system is provided. A network device is operative to determine whether a state of a link that couples the first network device with a third network device is active. In response to determining that the state of the link is active causing a payload of a packet to be forwarded towards the third network device through the second network interface of the first network device based on a second IP address; and responsive to determining that the state of the link is not active causing the second payload to be forwarded towards the third network device through a third network interface of the second network device based on the second IP address.

  • Patent number: 10771380
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for fast convergence in Layer 2 overlay network are described. Forwarding of Layer 2 (L2) traffic addressed to one or more remote L2 destinations is performed according to a remote L2 (RL2) instance, where the RL2 instance identifies a primary path for forwarding the traffic towards the remote L2 destinations, and a provider edge service label (PESL) instance associated with a broadcast domain including one or more network devices for forwarding the L2 traffic towards the L2 destination, and where the PESL instance is identified with a unique immutable PESL instance label. In response to a network event, an update of the RL2 instance is performed. The update results in an update of a data plane for forwarding the L2 traffic without necessitating an update of forwarding table entries for each one of the one or more remote L2 destination.

  • Patent number: 8902734
Abstract: A system and method for providing communication connection resilience between a mobile subscriber device and a network, such as the Internet. In one aspect, the invention provides improved communication connection resilience by using multiple nodes in multiple chassis to create redundant communication routes and to provide redundancy for control data relating to a mobile subscriber device. In one embodiment, a first node resides in a first chassis and a second node resides in a second chassis, and when an active communication link between the mobile subscriber device and the network via the first node becomes disrupted, the active communication link is rerouted such that data is communicated between the mobile subscriber device and the network via both of the first and second nodes.

  • Publication number: 20120224477
Abstract: A method and system for reducing congestion and latency in a communication system by creating a pruned forwarding set for scalable tunneling applications. The communication system provides a communication link between a mobile communication device and a network, such as the Internet. The method entails using information included within a data packet to determine a corresponding tunnel peer address, which is then resolved onto a set of paths. Each path includes respective adjacency information. A determination of whether to prune each respective path is made by using the respective adjacency information. The pruned set of paths is used to identify available paths for the communication link. By pruning in this manner, the line card being used as the home slot for a given session may also be used as the egress slot, thereby reducing congestion and latency in the communication system.
