  • Patent number: 10754549
Abstract: An append-only streams capability may be implemented that allows the host (e.g., the file system) to determine an optimal stream size based on the data to be stored in that stream. The storage device may expose to the host one or more characteristics of the available streams on the device, including but not limited to the maximum number of inactive and active streams on the device, the erase block size, the maximum number of erase blocks that can be written in parallel, and an optimal write size of the data. Using this information, the host may determine which particular stream offered by the device is best suited for the data to be stored.

  • Publication number: 20200257547
Abstract: A technique is described herein for updating the logic used by a hardware accelerator provided by a computing device. In one implementation, the technique provides a pass-through mode which allows a virtual machine (provided by the computing device) to directly interact with the hardware accelerator. Upon the commencement of an updating operation, the technique instructs an emulator to begin emulating the function(s) of the hardware accelerator and the resultant effects of these functions, without interaction with the actual hardware accelerator. When the updating operation finishes, the technique re-enables the pass-through mode. By virtue of the above-summarized manner of operation, the technique allows the computing device to perform the function(s) associated with the hardware accelerator while the hardware accelerator is being updated. In one case, the technique disables the pass-through mode by modifying address-mapping information used by the virtual machine to access system physical addresses.

  • Publication number: 20190278739
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for access to a storage device maintained at a server. In some examples, a network input/output device coupled to the server may allocate, in a memory of the server, a buffer, a doorbell, and a queue pair accessible to a client remote to the server. For these examples, the network input/output device may assign an Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) namespace context to the client. For these examples, indications of the allocated buffer, doorbell, queue pair, and namespace context may be transmitted to the client. Other examples are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 10360176
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for command validation for access to a storage device maintained at a server. In some examples, a network input/output device coupled to the server may receive the command from a client remote to the server. For these examples, elements or modules of the network input/output device may be capable of validating the command and reporting the status of the received command to the client. Other examples are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 9973425
Abstract: A system and method can provide a data service in a network environment. The system can provide a data service component on a node in the network environment, wherein the network environment includes a plurality of nodes interconnected via a network fabric. Furthermore, the system can use a native packet forwarding mechanism to direct a data flow in the network fabric to said data service component on the node. Then, the system can use said data service component to process one or more data packets in the data flow in the network fabric.

  • Patent number: 9888010
Abstract: An integrated firewall provides security in a multi-tenant environment having a connection-based switched fabric directly connecting database servers which provide a plurality of database services with application servers hosting database service consumers each having a different database service consumer identity. The firewall functionality integrated into each database server provides access control by discarding communication packets which do not include a database service consumer identity and using the database service consumer identity in combination with an access control list to control access from the database service consumers to the database services. The access control includes address resolution access control, connection establishment access control, and data exchange access control based on said access control list.

  • Publication number: 20180032249
Abstract: A host computer includes a virtual machine including a device-specific nonvolatile memory interface (NVMI). A nonvolatile memory virtualization abstraction layer (NVMVAL) hardware device communicates with the device-specific NVMI of the virtual machine. A NVMVAL driver is executed by the host computer and communicates with the NVMVAL hardware device. The NVMVAL hardware device advertises a local NVM device to the device-specific NVMI of the virtual machine. The NVMVAL hardware device and the NVMVAL driver are configured to virtualize access by the virtual machine to remote NVM that is remote from the virtual machine as if the remote NVM is local to the virtual machine.

  • Patent number: 9843512
Abstract: A system and method can provide a data service in a network environment. A subnet administrator can receive a path record resolution request from a source node, wherein the source node uses the path record resolution request to obtain an address of a destination node. Furthermore, the subnet administrator can provide an address of an intermediate node to the source node, wherein the intermediate node provides the data service. Then, the source node can send one or more data packets in a data flow to the intermediate node based on the address of the intermediate node.

  • Patent number: 9723009
Abstract: A security solution provides secure communication in a multi-tenant environment which includes a connection-based fabric, storage cells holding data associated with different tenants, database servers which provide a plurality of database services using said data, application servers hosting database service consumers. The fabric is configured into partitions isolating the storage cells from the database service consumers. • Patent number: 9577928
Abstract: A system and method can support data service address resolution in a network environment. An intermediate node can receive an incoming data packet from a source node, wherein the incoming data packet targets a destination node, and wherein the incoming data packet includes a global identifier for the destination node and a local identifier for the intermediate node. Furthermore, the intermediate node can obtain local addressing information for the destination node based on the global identifier for the destination node. Then, the intermediate node can send an outgoing data packet to the destination node based on the obtained local addressing information for the destination node.

  • Patent number: 9559990
Abstract: A system and method can provide a data service in a network environment. The network environment can include a node, which supports a data service component that can provide a data service. Additionally, a filter can be provided on a networking device, such as a host channel adaptor (HCA) that is associated with the node. The networking device operates to use the filter to identify one or more packets targeting the data service component without protocol termination. Furthermore, the filter can forward said one or more packets to the data service component.

  • Patent number: 9507752
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and systems for reducing usage of Doorbell Rings in connection with RDMA operations. A portion of system memory is employed as a Memory-Mapped Input/Output (MMIO) address space configured to be accessed via a hardware networking device. A Send Queue (SQ) is stored in MMIO and is used to facilitate processing of Work Requests (WRs) that are written to SQ entries by software and read from the SQ via the hardware networking device. The software and logic in the hardware networking device employ pointers identifying locations in the SQ corresponding to a next write WR entry slot and last read WR entry slot that are implemented to enable WRs to be written to and read from the SQ during ongoing operations under which the SQ is not emptied such that doorbell rings to notify the hardware networking device that new WRs have been written to the SQ are not required.

  • Patent number: 9405725
Abstract: An embodiment may include circuitry that may write a message from a system memory in a host to a memory space in an input/output (I/O) controller in the host. A host operating system may reside, at least in part, in the system memory. The message may include both data and at least one descriptor associated with the data. The data may be included in the at least one descriptor. The circuitry also may signal the I/O controller that the writing has occurred.
