Abstract: A protective case for a portable or laptop computer is shown. The case is designed to allow use of the computer without the need to remove it from the case. The bottom wall of the case has an attachment mechanism for holding the computer securely in place while the case is open. Angled brackets in the bottom wall and extending upward into the side wall, define a hinge portion of the case. The upper wall of the case includes a display holder for slidably holding the computer display. The display holder holds the top wall of the case to the display while allowing relative motion between the two. A rear access opening in the rear side wall panel allows access to connectors and ports at the rear of the computer so that they can be used while the computer remains in the case. A flap may be coupled to rear access opening, to allow the opening to be securely covered when not in use. A rear vent, covered with a mesh material, may also be incorporated into the rear panel to facilitate air circulation.

Abstract: A hot contact adapter for use with portable computing devices, such as laptop, notebook and tablet computers, PDA's and gaming devices, is disclosed. The adapter has a plug which fits in the power input port of the device and a body have a distal surface with exposed electrodes formed thereon. The device, with the adapter mounted thereon, may then be used with a charging cradle having electrodes which contact the adapter electrodes when the device is placed in the cradle. The cradle is connected to a source of power, such that power is supplied to the device in the cradle via the adapter.

The latch comprises a spring-loaded attachment mechanism that can be detachably attached to a bottom surface of the portable device. The latch also comprises a release handle that is captured by the attachment mechanism. The release handle has profiled edges and movement of the release handle in any direction within a release plane causes the profiled edges to release the attachment mechanism from the portable device.
