  • Patent number: 11313773
Abstract: A method includes generating a plurality of reference neighborhoods from a sample material structure. Tensors are determined for each of the plurality of reference neighborhoods associated with a material property. A neighborhood orientation is determined for each of the reference neighborhoods based on the tensors. A plurality of target neighborhoods are defined for a target structure. Each target neighborhood has a target orientation associated with the material property. A synthesized structure corresponding to the target structure is generated by selecting a reference neighborhood for each target neighborhood having a neighborhood orientation matching the target orientation.

  • Publication number: 20210240159
Abstract: Methods and system for computing integrals over geometric domains using moment-base representations for interoperability are disclosed. A first computing device may receive data for geometric and field representations of an object, the geometric representation specifying a geometric domain of the object, and the field representation specifying a spatially varying physical quantity. The first computing device may integrate a predetermined set of basis functions over the geometric domain multiplied by a field to derive a moment-vector for the object, the moment-vector encapsulating an analytic formulation of the geometric domain that is independent of the geometric and field representations. The first computing device may computationally generate quadrature rules for integrating an arbitrary function by applying moment-fitting to the moment-vector.

  • Publication number: 20200387652
Abstract: Methods and systems for evaluation of a physical object directly from a manufacturing process plan are disclosed. A procedural representation of the object may be retrieved from a database. A non-conforming grid of basis functions representing physics to be applied may be determined. Boundary conditions for numerical integration over the object geometry may be determined. The boundary conditions may specify a physical boundary of a portion of the object geometry, and a physical condition applied over the portion. From the procedural representation, geometry and material rules for numerical integration over the portion of the object geometry may be determined. The basis functions may be numerically integrated over the object geometry, and a system of linear equations determined describing the physics subject to the boundary conditions. The system of equations may be solved to evaluate a physical quantity, and a graphical representation of the physical quantity may be displayed.

  • Patent number: 10509875
Abstract: An example embodiment may involve obtaining a model of physical characteristics of a tangible composite laminate. The tangible composite laminate may include at least two plies, and the model may include representations of each respective ply. The example embodiment may also involve identifying a virtual material model of one or more plies of the tangible composite laminate. The virtual material model may be associated with characteristics that match the representations of the one or more plies of the tangible composite laminate. The example embodiment may further involve updating the model by replacing the representations, in the model, of the one or more plies of the tangible composite laminate with the virtual material model. The example embodiment may additionally involve conducting structural analysis of the updated model.

  • Publication number: 20190227526
Abstract: Methods and system for computing integrals over geometric domains using moment-base representations for interoperability are disclosed. A first computing device may receive data for a geometric representation of an object, the geometric representation specifying a geometric domain corresponding to a shape and a contained spatial region of the object. The first computing device may computationally integrate a predetermined set of basis functions over the geometric domain to derive a moment-vector for the object, the moment-vector encapsulating an analytic formulation of the geometric domain that is independent of the geometric representation. The first computing device may then computationally generate quadrature rules for integrating an arbitrary function by applying moment-fitting to the moment-vector. The quadrature rules may be provided to a second computing device.

  • Patent number: 10353378
Abstract: A method for estimating a material characteristic of an article includes receiving a material property tensor having an associated reference direction. A tool path model of an additive manufacturing process for manufacturing the article is received. A geometric model is generated based on the tool path model defining a plurality of roads arranged in layers. For each of the roads, the material property tensor is rotated to align the reference direction with a direction of a selected road and an estimated material property value is assigned to the selected road to generate a first geometry-material model of the article.

  • Patent number: 9103233
Abstract: A means to effect a trip response regardless of the electro-mechanical actuator type used for improving electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical integrated control systems for a steam turbine. To achieve this goal, electro-mechanical actuators can be equipped with multiple coils or multiple motors (usually a primary and a secondary). In a dual-coil configuration, the primary is energized according to an output of a PID controller, whereas the secondary coil is regulated by a separate control element. The entire system is powered by means of Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) with AC output which can provide sufficient time for trip response using primary coil or motor. At the same time, secondary coil or motor is powered by independent power from a UPS and/or separate battery backup. Whenever trip response is required, and there is a complete main power interruption secondary coil or motor is quickly energized to provide adequate trip response.

  • Patent number: 7094019
Abstract: A system and method of surge limit control for turbo compressors including a turbo compressor having an inlet and an outlet, an anti-surge valve, a variable speed drive to operate the compressor, a rotational speed transmitter, an inlet temperature transmitter, an inlet pressure transmitter, an outlet pressure transmitter and/or guide vanes, and a controller, the controller including a PID control module wherein the computer uses information from the transmitters to continuously calculate a pressure ratio of the compressor at the compressor's current operational speed and compare it to the compressor's calculated pressure ratio at surge limit conditions. A computer generates a control signal for determining when to open the anti-surge valve if the pressure ratio of the compressor at the compressor's current operational speed guide vanes are within a user defined safety margin to the calculated pressure ratio at surge limit conditions.
