    Abstract: The invention is a proposed extension to ISO/IEC standard 14496-6 (DMIF) and is partly described in ISO/IEC working document 14496-6 V2 WD 3.0. Specifically, the invention is a novel method for allowing the delivery of a streamed multimedia service across a heterogeneous network configuration without establishing a new session. In one embodiment, the invention is applicable to a scenario in which first and second terminals are directly connected to a first network and indirectly connected to a second network via respective access networks. Each terminal comprises terminal middleware and there is also a network middleware component connected to the terminals and to the access networks and to the second network.
