Abstract: A method is disclosed for designing an energy-absorbing impact zone for a vehicle interior, including acquiring test data representative of an occupant, determining a force versus deflection curve for the vehicle impact zone, analyzing the force versus deflection curve, and utilizing the analysis to adjust the stiffness of the energy-absorbing impact zone and to shape the force versus deflection curve so that a constant area under the force versus deflection curve has the minimum deflection possible without exceeding a certain force limit and a certain head impact criterion.

Abstract: A media player system for a vehicle is disclosed which includes a base fixed to the vehicle and a media player releasably attached to the base for removal of the media player for use separate from the vehicle. The media player includes one or more striker pins and a terminal. A connector is provided on the mounting base for mating with the terminal to establish a power connection and connection for video and audio signals from the player. The mounting base further includes raised stanchions providing guide slots having an open end for reception of the striker pins of the media player to guide the player to a latched position and facilitate mating of the media player terminal with the connector in the mounting base. One or more latch members are provided to close the open ends of the guide slots and entrap the striker pins therein to retain the player on the base.

Abstract: A visor mounting system includes a visor pivot rod with an end which extends through a bezel and a locking member which is spring-loaded to cooperate with the bezel and pivot rod for allowing the visor to be initially inserted in an aperture in the underlying roof support and subsequently rotated using the visor as the installation tool to a position in which the locking member moves toward the bezel and lockably engages the vehicle roof.
