  • Patent number: 7613378
Abstract: The present invention consists in an optical device comprising an optical component and an optical medium with different refractive indices, said optical component being at least partly immersed in said optical medium, which device is characterized in that said optical medium contains a salt that is in the liquid state in the range of temperatures at which said optical component is used and stored, i.e. in a range of temperatures generally from ?40° C. to +200° C. The optical component may in particular be a Bragg long-period grating (LPG) or a photonic crystal fiber.

  • Publication number: 20060285199
Abstract: An optical amplification system is described which comprises an optical amplifier and an optical filter. The gain of the optical amplifier is changeable to different gain values. For every one of the gain values, a wavelength-dependent gain curve exists. At least for one of the gain values, the gain curve varies over the wavelength. An apodized long-period grating (LPG) is used as the optical filter. The apodized LPG provides at least one wavelength-dependent attenuation curve which compensates the gain curve varying over the wavelength.

  • Patent number: 6766079
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fiber grating filter optical waveguide device, comprising an optical fiber consisting essentially of silica, whereby said optical fiber has an area with a diffractive grating region and wherein said area with a diffractive grating region is covered with a material having a negative thermal expansion coefficient &agr; satisfying the following equation: &agr;=−(dneff/dT)/neff wherein dneff/dT is the thermo-optic coefficient of the fiber material and neff is the effective refractive index. Furthermore, the present invention provides a method of manufacturing such a device.

  • Patent number: 6760518
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fiber grating filter optical waveguide device, comprising an optical fiber with an optical filter, both consisting essentially of silica, whereby said optical filter has an area with a grating region, wherein said area with a grating region is covered with a layer comprising a material having a refractive index which is the same or higher than the refractive index of the material of the optical fiber. The variation of the physic-chemical nature of said material allows to match the changes in the refractive index of the optical fiber of the optical filter when specific requirements for a high transmission spectrum of the filter are required.
