Abstract: A color-based imaging system and method for the detection and classification of insects and other arthropods are described, including devices for counting arthropods and providing taxonomic capabilities useful for pest-management. Some embodiments include an image sensor (for example, a digital color camera, scanner or a video camera) with optional illumination that communicates with a computer system. Some embodiments include a color scanner connected to a computer. Sampled arthropods are put on a scanner to be counted and identified. The computer captures images from the scanner, adjusts scanner settings, and processes the acquired images to detect and identify the arthropods. Other embodiments include a trapping device and a digital camera connected by cable or wireless communications to the computer. Some devices include a processor to do the detection and identification in the field, or the field system can send the images to a centralized host computer for detection and identification.

  • Patent number: 8136237
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of interconnecting electronic components of a first wafer (T1) with electronic components of a second wafer (T2), each wafer having metallized vias (1) which pass through the wafer in the thickness direction. The method includes deposition of a drop (3) of conductive ink containing solvents on each via (1) of the first wafer (T1); stacking of the second wafer (T2) on the first so that the vias (1) of the second wafer (T2) are substantially superposed on the vias (1) of the first wafer (T1); removal of 50 to 90% of the solvents contained in the drops (3) by heating or applying a vacuum, so as to obtain a pasty ink; and laser sintering of the pasty ink drops (3) so as to produce electrical connections (31) between the superposed metallized vias (1).

  • Publication number: 20120017248
Abstract: A simple antenna is connected to the RF input port on a conventional digital TV to receive video content from a plurality of video content sources wirelessly. The wireless RF transmission by a local transmitter has a range generally limited to within a home or room. The low power RF transmission is on a carrier frequency that is legally authorized by the FCC in frequency and power level. To identify the open channels for the RF transmission, a tuner scans for weak channels, and the transmitter is tuned to transmit on the detected weak channels.

  • Publication number: 20120008149
Abstract: Velometer is an apparatus that comprises of a beam of light or any other electromagnetic field (hereafter referred to simply as “light”) emitted and received in vacuum inside of an object in motion. The nature of light provides for the beam of light to retain the characteristics of its motion in vacuum regardless of the object's motion in which it (light) propagates. Consequently, the beam of light retains its position in space relative to the direction of motion of the device. Since both entities, the beam of light and the object, are located in the same frame of references, the characteristics of their motion can be compared. The result of this comparison represents the vector of the object's own velocity. The vector of velocity of the object is utilized in the navigation of the object.

  • Patent number: 8086504
Abstract: Tag suggestions enable a hosting entity such as a website to determine one or more tags to suggest to a user for association with a particular item within an electronic catalog. After this determination, the hosting entity may suggest the determined tags to the user. To determine these tags, the hosting entity may employ techniques to determine items related to the particular item. The hosting entity then suggests some or all of the tags associated with the related items. Additionally or alternatively, the hosting entity may determine certain metadata associated with the particular item. The entity then may suggest this metadata, or some related phrase or tag, to the user for association with the particular item. However the tag suggestions are determined, the hosting entity may rank the tag suggestions to determine which tags to present to the user or to determine an order in which to present the tags.

  • Publication number: 20110313607
Abstract: The present invention provides a speed control system, a speed control wheel mechanism and a spring compression system where magnetism is used as a unique speed reduction means to control excessive speed of a free rolling wheel, roller or pulley. The action takes place where a plurality of braking fins between two side plates are forced outward by the means of centrifugal force into one or more magnetic braking calipers. The braking fins are retained by the means of springs that are overcome by inertia of the centrifugal force with increasing speed. With the addition of the spring compression system using multiple springs of different compressive resistance over a wire rope or cable, a cushioning effect can be achieved over any given distance depending upon the speed and weight of the vehicle or device.

Abstract: Thermal solar energy collector, in which a solar radiation absorption panel, inside which the heat-conducting fluid flows, is situated inside a parallelepipedal box, with an opening having a transparent cover at the front, which may be doubled so as to leave an atmospheric space in the middle. The rear wall of the box has a system of seals and reservoirs which are inset in the wall so that they accommodate the expansion and contraction of vertical tubes of the panel and horizontal connections by means of gentle changes in curvature of the tube bends and slight rotations of the reservoirs, with the addition of a system for filling the box with an inert gas, the pressure of which may be chosen from a range of between a thousandth of an atmosphere and one atmosphere, there being provided for this purpose an external gas circuit, with low- and high-pressure tanks, an intermediate compressor.

  • Patent number: 8071656
Abstract: The present invention provides energetically and economically efficient methods for separating polyamide polymer(s) from commingled materials. The methods generally involve precipitating a polyamide polymer dissolved in a solvent (e.g., formic acid) using dimethyl ether (DME) as an antisolvent. The methods comprise dissolving the polyamide polymer in a solvent that (i) selectively dissolves the polyamide polymer relative to the other materials and (ii) has a higher solubility for DME relative to the polyamide polymer; and then contacting the mixture of the solvent with the dissolved polyamide polymer with DME, thereby precipitating the polyamide polymer.
