    Abstract: A tamper evident hinge type closure includes, as is conventional in such closures, a body portion, a lid portion and a hinge portion. Advantageously, at least one tamper evident band is provided so as to mechanically secure the lid portion to the body portion at a position that is distal from the hinge. The tamper evident band, which is designed to break upon initial opening of the closure by a consumer, is preferably integral with both the body portion and the lid portion, so as to ensure more reliably than was possible with interlocking mechanical tamper evident structures that the closure may not be opened without defeating the tamper evident band. A process for making the improved closures is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A plastic dispensing closure includes an elongated dispensing spout that defines an interior passage and has a distal end terminating in a rim. A sealing member is integral with the dispensing spout and is frangibly connected to the distal end of the dispensing spout by frangible connecting structure in order to seal the interior passage and prevent fluid from leaking out of the closure before it is opened. A lever arm that is integral with the sealing member is oriented so as to extend upwardly from the sealing member. The frangible connecting structure is advantageously constructed and arranged to rupture when a predetermined torque is applied to the lever arm. The predetermined torque is calculated so as to minimize the likelihood of the closure being opened accidentally, while at the same time being convenient for a consumer to open.

    Abstract: A closure for a container includes a main body portion that is constructed and arranged to be secured to a container, such as by a threaded engagement. The main body portion has a dispensing orifice defined therein that is configured to permit material flow from the container. A lid portion is hingedly mounted to the main body portion and is movable between a first, open position wherein material may be dispensed from the container through the dispensing orifice and a second, closed position wherein the dispensing orifice is blocked by the lid portion. Venting structure is defined in the main body portion for permitting for permitting outside air to enter the container when an underpressure condition exists within the container, as may be expected to occur when the container is subjected to a change in altitude or temperature.

    Abstract: A closure and container package are provided in which the closure has an elongated orifice. A spout cover on an underside surface of the cap portion of the closure receives a spout portion on a body portion of the closure about the orifice. A snap hinge couples the cap and body. An interior surface of the spout cover forms a sealing contact with an exterior surface of the spout to form an outside seal that does not become contaminated upon dispensing of the contents of the container. An annular seal extending downwardly from a base portion of the closure seals the head-space within the closure to present vapor infiltration and condensation in the head-space. A mold for forming the closure is also disclosed. The spout may be formed such that its sidewalls outwardly bulge upon molding, but upon cooling become substantially parallel.

    Abstract: A cover for a valved dispensing closure prevents the valve from opening while the cover is disposed on closure. The cover's central projection prevents flaps formed in the valve from opening, and the cover's outer projection prevents the flexible valve head from moving or inverting. The cover may also have projections that project inwardly from its skirt. The cover projections interact with mating projections formed on an exterior of the closure, and a lower end of the skirt may be disposed into an annular groove in the closure, to enhance a seal between the closure and the cover. The cover may include a snap ring attached to other portions of the cover by a breakable connection to provide tamper evidence.

    Abstract: A portion dispensing container assembly includes a container that has an externally threaded finish portion and a closure main body that is mounted to the finish portion. The closure main body has a storage space defined therein in which a concentrate may be stored. A plunger member is mounted for linear movement within the closure main body between a first upper position and a second lower position. In the second, lower position the plunger member causes the storage space two open into communication with the interior of the container. A tamper evident interlock is further provided to prevent movement of the plunger member to the second, lower position until a consumer removes the tamper evident interlock.

    Abstract: A child resistant container assembly includes a container and a child resistant flip-top type closure that is secured onto the container. The flip-top type closure includes a main closure body having internal threading that is engaged with external threading that is provided on a neck portion of the container. A dispensing orifice is provided in the main closure body for dispensing a substance, such as detergent, from the container. Retention structure is provided for deterring removal of the closure main body from the container after the closure main body has been screwed onto the container. A lid member is hingedly mounted to the closure main body for movement between a first, closed position that covers the orifice and a second, open position wherein the dispensing orifice is uncovered and the substance within the container may be freely dispensed.
