Publication number: 20240095414Abstract: In various embodiments a computer-implemented method for providing sustainability insights to a user designing an object. The method includes determining a value of a sustainability metric associated with a design of an object; determining a target value for the sustainability metric; determining an amount of progress made towards achieving the target value for the sustainability metric based on the value of the sustainability metric and the target value for the sustainability metric; and displaying, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a visual indication of the amount of progress made towards achieving the target value for the sustainability metric.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Frederik BRUDY, Dagmara Lilianna SZKURLAT, Vikram-jit Singh BENIPAL, Michael Ziye FAN, Andrew Gareth Lewis JONES, Justin Frank MATEJKA, Zoé Samiha Valentine BEZPALKO, Lorenzo VILLAGGI, Fraser ANDERSON, George FITZMAURICE, Patrick NADEAU, Benjamin James THOMPSON, Daniel NOVIELLO, Arthur HARSUVANAKIT

Publication number: 20240095416Abstract: In various embodiments a computer-implemented method for providing sustainability insights to a user designing an object. The method includes determining a first value of a sustainability metric associated with a design of an object, displaying, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a visual indication of the first value of the sustainability metric, and detecting a change to the design of the object. The method further includes, in response to detecting the change to the design of the object, determining a second value of the sustainability metric and displaying, via the GUI, a visual indication of the second value of the sustainability metric.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Frederik BRUDY, Dagmara Lilianna SZKURLAT, Vikram-jit Singh BENIPAL, Michael Ziye FAN, Andrew Gareth Lewis JONES, Justin Frank MATEJKA, Zoé Samiha Valentine BEZPALKO, Lorenzo VILLAGGI, Fraser ANDERSON, George FITZMAURICE, Patrick NADEAU, Benjamin James THOMPSON, Daniel NOVIELLO, Arthur HARSUVANAKIT

Patent number: 10228061Abstract: A seal arrangement for effecting a seal between first and second components arranged for relative rotation about a common axis. Seal arrangement includes a first seal surface associated with the first component, and a second seal surface associated with the second component. First and second seal surfaces are presented for air-riding interaction with one another during relative rotation between components such that, in use, a pressure drop is maintained across seal arrangement. First seal surface incorporates a plurality of spaced-apart hydrodynamic lift-generating features and plurality of ventilation recesses, each ventilation recess being interposed between respective pair of lift-generating features, and wherein each ventilation recess has depth measured normal to first seal surface which is greater than maximum dimension of each lift-generating feature measured normal to first seal surface. Seal arrangement may be embodied in compliant filament seal such as a leaf seal or a brush seal.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2016Date of Patent: March 12, 2019Assignee: ROLLS-ROYCE plcInventors: Michael Joseph Pekris, Felix Francesco Andrea Lepetit, Terence Valentine Jones

Patent number: 8162323Abstract: A leaf seal arrangement is provided in which within a housing there are edge portions to inter associate with non parallel chamfer edges in leaf seal elements. In such circumstances, deflection of the leaf seal elements in an outward direction or inward direction relative to a rotating shaft creates variation in a control gap X, XX between the edges and the chamfer edge. Such increase or decrease in the control gap X, XX adjusts the aerodynamic radial force that is presented to the leaf seal elements whereby those elements can be more accurately maintained at a desired leaf position for optimizing leakage while achieving better wear resistance performance.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2008Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLCInventors: Richard Nicholson, Terence Valentine Jones

Patent number: 6524858Abstract: The invention provides a new single channel, single dilution method and system for identifying, analyzing and quantifying the cellular components of whole blood using a single channel, rather than multiple channels, of an automated hematology analyzer utilizing flow cytometry and the detection of the light scattered and absorbed by each cell. The single channel utilized in the method was previously known and used only for red blood cell and reticulocyte analysis. The method involves the use of an organic dye in the reagent solution for staining the nucleic acid of reticulocytes, including reticulated platelets, and white blood cells in the sample. The single channel method developed and described is particularly useful for determining white blood cell counts and assessing parameters of a whole blood sample, for blood samples from both human and non-human mammals.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2000Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: Bayer CorporationInventors: David Zelmanovic, Valentine Jones
