  • Patent number: 5865454
Abstract: An electronically controlled speed change device for bicycles has an automatic mode of operation in which, at the request of the cyclist for increase or decrease of the speed ratio, the system itself automatically provides to select the pair front crown wheel-rear sprocket which is most suitable to provide a progressive increase, or respectively a decrease, of the distance covered by the bicycle at each turn of the pedals.

  • Patent number: 5864951
Abstract: A free wheel body is inserted within the hub of a bicycle rear wheel while the pawls of the free wheel are temporarily held in their retracted positions by an auxiliary tool facilitating the mounting operation. The tool is constituted by a bush having a plurality of longitudinal wings which are elastically deformable. When the mounting operation has been carried out, the bush can be removed from body of the free wheel by making it slide rearwardly thereon.

  • Patent number: 5845537
Abstract: A device for controlling a bicycle derailleur comprises a control member which is rotatably mounted on the handlebar adjacent to a fixed handgrip. The various operative positions of the rotatable control member are defined by indexing means comprising a toothed wheel which is rigidly connected to said rotatable control member and a plurality of resilient engagement members carried by said supporting body and able to selectively engage the vanes between the teeth of the toothed wheel. The supporting body has a C-shaped configuration with two wings which can be clamped by a screw which is also used to rotatably support a pulley on which the flexible control cable actuated by the rotatable control member is engaged.

  • Patent number: 5795036
Abstract: The hub of a rear wheel of a race bicycle is deprived of radial flanges for connection to the spokes. The spokes have straight end portions, which are not bent in an elbow-like fashion, and are received in respective front cavities formed on the end surfaces of the hub. Force distributing members are preferably interposed between the enlarged heads of the spokes and the cooperating abutment surfaces. Axial retainers may be provided to prevent the end portions of the spokes from moving axially out of the respective cavities.

  • Patent number: 5791195
Abstract: A speed change control device for a bicycle, particularly a "mountain-bike" comprises two actuating levers, respectively for controlling down-shifting of the bicycle chain on rear sprockets or front gears of smaller diameter and up-shifting of the chain on sprockets or gears of greater diameter. The control levers are movable in two planes parallel and closed to each other, which are arranged below the handlebar, out of the interference therewith, in the mounted condition of the device on the handlebar. The device further includes a return spring for the rotor on which the flexible control cable is wound, which exerts an action opposite to that of the return spring associated with the rear or front derailleur to which the control cable is connected.

  • Patent number: 5741196
Abstract: A transmission chain, particularly for a bicycle, has inner links alternated to outer links. The inner and outer links are constituted by pairs of plates articulated to each other by means of pins. The plates of the inner links have their outer surfaces with a depressed central portion. The plates of the outer links have their inner surfaces with a depressed central portion. The plates of the outer links further have through holes for engagement of the articulation pins with enlarged end mouths opening on the outer surfaces of these plates, which receive the riveted ends of the articulation pins.
