The stationary fitness device comprises a sensor equipment for the contactless detection of the motions of a user of the fitness device and for forwarding signals generated by the sensor equipment on the basis of the motions of the user, a display unit for displaying motion sequences of a fitness exercise by a virtual fitness trainer and for displaying a virtual image of the user, a computer unit which on the basis of the signals received from the sensor equipment generates the virtual image of the user and displays the same by means of the display unit, and an identification means for identifying a particular user from a list of users stored in the computer unit.
