Patent number: 12196415Abstract: A burner and a method utilize a burner tile with an outer surface extending along the furnace wall and an inner surface defining a passageway. A fuel duct extends at least partially through the passageway and discharges fuel onto a burner head. The burner head forms a coanda-curved surface, wherein the fuel is directed onto the coanda-curved surface such that the fuel flows along the coanda-curved surface to the outer surface of the burner tile. There is an air channel defined by an outside edge of the coanda-curved surface and in fluid flow communication with the passageway such that air flows from the passageway through the channel to mix with the fuel so as to produce the combustible mixture.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2022Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Assignee: JOHN ZINK COMPANY, LLCInventors: Gilles Theis, Valeriy Smirnov, I-Ping Chung, Ahmed Kadi, Hadj Ali Gueniche

Patent number: 11747013Abstract: Emissions of NOX and/or CO are reduced at the stack by systems and methods wherein a primary fuel is thoroughly mixed with a specific range of excess combustion air. The primary fuel-air mixture is then discharged and anchored within a combustion chamber of a burner. Further, the systems and methods provide for dynamically controlling NOX content in emissions from a furnace by adjusting the flow of primary fuel and of a secondary stage fuel, and in some cases controlling the amount or placement of combustion air into the furnace.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2022Date of Patent: September 5, 2023Assignee: John Zink Company, LLCInventors: Chad Carroll, Jaime Erazo, Valeriy Smirnov, Thomas Korb, Mark Vaccari, Sean Battisti, Jose Corcega

Patent number: 9995481Abstract: A method and apparatus for a burner adapted to heat a furnace or other environment of use. In particular, a burner for providing a fuel gas in combination with an oxidant to effect controlled reaction of the fuel gas in a manner to reduce NOx emissions is described. Combustion of the fuel gas is shifted from the burner combustor to a location outside the burner once the temperature within the furnace/radiant tube has reached a sufficient level to complete combustion of the fuel gas.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2012Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Assignee: Eclipse, Inc.Inventors: Jianhui Hong, Valeriy Smirnov

Publication number: 20140080072Abstract: A method of operating a burner includes providing supplying a combustible mixture containing a ratio of fuel and air that is incapable of maintaining a stable flame to a combustion chamber. The combustible mixture is ignited by an igniter, and presence of a flame is sensed. The igniter is maintained active to sustain combustion of the combustible mixture within the combustion chamber so that a space exterior to the combustion chamber is heated to a temperature at or above an auto-ignition temperature of the combustible mixture. The temperature of the space exterior is monitored and the combustible mixture is provided at a second flow rate, which is higher than the first flow rate, to extinguish the flame in the combustion chamber such that combustion occurs in the space exterior to the combustion chamber. When combustion occurs in the space exterior to the combustion chamber, the igniter is deactivated.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2013Publication date: March 20, 2014Applicant: Eclipse, Inc.Inventors: Valeriy Smirnov, Jianhui Hong

Publication number: 20060246387Abstract: A refractory block for a burner comprises a collection chamber that receives the nozzle of a burner. A primary combustion passage extends horizontally from the collection chamber. Also, two secondary air passages extend from the collection chamber and diverge outwardly and upwardly to provide for secondary air outlets vertically above and on either side of the main combustion outlet. By delaying complete combustion, NOx emissions are reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2005Publication date: November 2, 2006Applicant: Eclipse Combustion, Inc.Inventor: Valeriy Smirnov

Patent number: 6939130Abstract: A combustion apparatus comprising a pre-combustor stage and a primary combustion stage, the pre-combustor stage having two co-axial cylinders, one for oxidant and one for fuel gas, in which the fuel gas is preheated and the primary combustion stage having rectangular co-axial passages through which fuel and oxidant are admitted into a refractory burner block. Both passages converge in the vertical plane and diverge in the horizontal plane. The passage through the refractory burner block also has a rectangular profile and diverges in the horizontal plane. The outlets to the primary combustion stage are recessed in the refractory burner block at a distance which may be varied.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2003Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: Gas Technology InstituteInventors: Hamid A. Patent number: 6024083Abstract: A nozzle for a recuperative radiant tube burner system is constructed to provide uniform combustion along the length of the inner tube. The nozzle includes combustion air ports disposed at compound angles and having different axial components to provide staged mixing of air and fuel. The staged mixing produces a combustible mixture along the length of the tube to produce a more uniform flame. The nozzle further has an outer wall disposed normal to the combustion air ports to improve air flow through the ports. A fuel outlet tube has relief ports for continuing fuel flow in the event that a main orifice is plugged, which may result from air pressure fluctuations in the burner system.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Eclipse Combustion, Inc.Inventor: Valeriy Smirnov
