  • Patent number: 7556825
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for targeted and specific delivery of beneficial compounds, including hair dyes, melanin, proteins, and nucleic acids for gene therapy, to hair follicle cells using liposomes encapsulating the beneficial compound. Particularly preferred methods describe delivery of hair dyes, melanin or tyrosinase to the hair follicle for the purpose of improving hair color or condition, the delivery of compounds which prevent alopecia or stimulate hair growth, either by encapsulating a compound in liposomes, or by encapsulating a nucleic acid capable of expressing a protein in liposomes. Also described are liposome compositions for practicing the methods.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 7, 2004
Date of Patent: July 7, 2009
    Assignee: Anticancer, Inc.

  • Patent number: 6733776
Abstract: The invention provides a method to provide hair growth by stimulating extrusion of hair from a hair follicle which employs a liposomal formulation of an active ingredient which stimulates extrusion when taken up by the hair follicles.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 6623430
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the safe delivery of thermosensitive liposomes containing medicant to a targeted tissue region using ultrasound. Thermosensitive liposomes containing medicants are delivered to a region of interest, the region of interest is located using ultrasound imaging, ultrasound therapy is applied to heat the region of interest, and the temperature of the region is monitored to determine whether a designated threshold temperature has been reached which allows for the release of medicants from the liposomes. If the threshold temperature is reached, and the liposomes are melted, the treatment stops. If the threshold temperature has not been reached, the application of ultrasound therapy and ultrasound imaging are alternated until the threshold temperature is reached. The ultrasound imaging, temperature monitoring and ultrasound therapy are preferably performed with a single transducer.

  • Patent number: 5753263
Abstract: The invention describes a method to deliver a composition selectively to hair follicles using a liposomal formulation. Proteins which are cell cycle inhibitors are products of the multi-drug resistance gene or the recombinant materials for their production are targeted to hair follicles by encapsulating them in liposomes.

  • Patent number: 5690929
Abstract: The present invention describes methods for using methioninase as an antitumor reagent in anti-methionine chemotherapy. Specifically, methioninase is used to slow or stop cell division which can be enhanced with competitive inhibitors of methionine. In addition, methioninase can be used in combination with chemotherapeutic agents to increase the therapeutic effectiveness of the agent by inducing cell cycle synchronization.
